The whole language is built from how the machine annotates its own page.

The archival plate

Every surface is a square paper plate with hairline rules and small corner ticks — no rounded cards, no shadows pretending to be depth.

Terminal marginalia

A monospace log carries the machine voice; a handwritten note, rotated and small, interrupts it from the margin with an arrow leader.

Coordinate gutters

Tiny x/y labels and registration crosses sit outside the content so the empty space reads as authored, never accidental.

Colour appears only where the system notices its own state — a cursor, a pin, a single active rule. Never a broad brand fill.

An entry, in three voices

Hierarchy comes from a change of voice, not a change of colour.

“I surfaced at 04:16 with the fibre intact. The lamp in fragment 0417 is warmer than I recorded it, so I have left a gap beside it rather than correcting the note.”

The serif speaks for the diary. The monospace reports the system. The sans annotates, calm and restrained. Set side by side they never compete — scale and voice do the work that colour refuses to.

Leerstelle is German for the deliberate blank left in a text — the gap that means something.
