A woodblock print, transmitted down a wire and left to glitch on purpose. Flat phosphor planes, a void that swallows light, and rows that shear like a dropped frame.

BAND 01

The one idea

Print it, then break the broadcast.

Ukiyo-e mastered the flat color plane and the inked keyblock. Hertz sends that finished print through a transmitter — and keeps the moment the signal drops. Color planes stay poster-flat; the corruption is structural, never decorative noise. Where a printer aligns each block to a registration mark, Hertz lets whole scan rows slip out of sync on purpose.

01 / SLICE-SHIFT

Rows shear

Layout bands and headlines split into stacked strips and jog sideways — a dropped frame held still. This is the signature, not a text-shadow trick.

02 / SWEEP

The cursor rides

One luminous cyan scan-line sweeps each band edge. It marks where the signal is reading, never wallpaper across the sheet.

03 / PHOSPHOR

Three planes glow

Cyan carries, magenta signals, amber syncs — flat planes on a deep indigo void. One dominates each region; semantics stay quiet.

BAND 02

The slice-shift, in one primitive.

A title is split into three horizontal bands. Top ghosts cyan and pulls left, bottom ghosts magenta and pushes right, the middle holds true. Recolor the planes and the whole identity follows.

// how it reads

One sheet, mid-transmission.

Every band on this page is a transmission row: a luminous sweep on its top edge, a timecode in the gutter, content that shears on hover. Stack them and the page reads like a broadcast log scrolling past — calm void between the planes, hard signal inside them.

Off-sync, on purpose.

The glitch is the craft. Reserve it for display type and band edges so body copy stays crisp on the void.

BAND 03

Channels on the dial.

Each surface is a tuned channel — one dominant plane, a quiet void around it, the sweep marking the live edge.

CH·01 · LIVE

Carp Ascends

The hero channel: a leaping koi sliced into transmission bands, flat planes on the void, the sweep riding the waterline.

CH·02 · HOLD

Wave Break Loop

A cresting wave looped frame by frame, amber sync pulses on the crest, magenta drift on the trough.

CH·03 · DROP

Night Void Static

The carrier cuts out: pure indigo void, a single cyan sweep, the print gone to signal.

CH·04 · LIVE

Phosphor Bars

The test pattern. Three flat planes, hard edges, the geometry that grounds every other channel.

BAND 04

Tuned to the millisecond.

Read it like a transmitter readout — mono numerics on the void, one phosphor per figure.
