What you do not place is as composed as what you do. The mountain takes a corner; the mist takes a little more; the rest is yours to think in.
Three disciplines
How the room holds attention
The vast margin
Text lives in a 640px column inside flanking emptiness. The void is never filled to balance a grid — it is the grid.
One seal
A single cinnabar mark appears at most twice a screen. Importance is proven by rarity, not by scale.
Ink carries hierarchy
Typography alone — dramatic 1.414 size jumps, square corners, hairline rules. No colour does the work of a heading.
“We measured the page by how much we could leave standing.” Mei Ito · founding note
In the room
Read six pages, then stop
A column gives you the day's reading and nothing more. When the column is done, the room shows you the blank scroll — absence is the natural condition, never an error.
Notes go to an inset well; the page keeps its quiet. The seal is yours to press when a passage is finished.
