One axis, not one column
A scroll reads top to bottom along its mounting line. Content registers to a single left plumb line; weight loads toward the base, never centred and floating.
The seal descends
The cinnabar is a column of impressed chops down the margin — verified, proposed, the studio's hand — never a stray decorative dot.
Ink is the ground
Bone-white type and pale rules bloom on a near-black field, the way silver ink disperses in dark water. The void here is full, not empty.

Mount and measure
The scroll is registered to the plumb line: dimensions, support, mounting silk, the period of the roller itself.

Each impressed chop is logged in its descending order — imperial, collector, artist — building the chain of custody down the margin.
Attribute and date
Brushwork and seal evidence are weighed against the record. The state — verified, in review, disputed — is the only place a second hue appears.
