Designer koinobori, festival river-hangs, and a growth-keepsake carp a year — raised on the early-summer breeze for the children of now. Made by a studio, not a souvenir stand.
Kunpu — the fragrant early-summer breeze that carries the scent of young leaves — is the moment a koinobori stops being cloth and starts to swim. We design for that moment. A carp climbs upstream against the current; the legend says the one that reaches the top of the waterfall becomes a dragon. That is the wish you hang above a child: not that the wind be gentle, but that they be brave enough for it.
So our streamers are cut to fly taut, not to sag. Ripstop sailcloth, screen-printed by hand in six colourways, balanced to hold their shape in a real gust. Festival-grade, made to be raised every May for twenty.
Hand-cut ripstop carp in six colourways, screen-printed with the geometric scale motif. Sized from desk (40cm) to river (5m). Built to fly taut for two decades.
We rig 50 to 5,000 streamers across a river, street, or courtyard — engineering, install, and take-down handled. The Tatebayashi hang holds the world record; we plan to yours.
One small carp a year, dated and named, from a child's first May to their twentieth. A subscription that becomes a streamer-string of a whole childhood.
Koinobori have flown over Japan since the eighteenth century, and became their bright modern selves in the Meiji era. We keep the meaning and redraw the cloth — flat colour, hard edges, a studio's eye — so the wish reads as clearly to a child today as it did two hundred Mays ago.
Every spring from late March to early May, Tatebayashi in Gunma strings roughly five thousand koinobori across the Tsuruuda River. In 2005 it set a Guinness World Record — and later flew 6,340 to mark the height of Tokyo Skytree. We plan, rig, and fly hangs at that scale, and at the scale of one school courtyard.
The first carp go up as the cherry falls and the young leaves come in.
Festival installs go live across rivers, streets, and courtyards.
This year's dated growth-carp post out to every subscriber.
Children's Day. The whole school flies, and the wind does the rest.
