Every surface begins as a botanical field-note plate — pressed sedge, fern, and seed pods in muted watercolour and fine ink on pressed-fibre parchment. Records are habitat cards; the mark that says Mossbank is the leaf-notch, a corner clipped as if a leaf tip pressed off.

Depth is layered paper fibre and shallow sediment, never glossy chrome. Sections settle in horizons the way a riverbank does — important first, quieter beneath. We auger a core and read it top to bottom.

a narrow rail.
The layout is an asymmetric river: a wide content stream paired with a slim observation rail, bands widening and narrowing like terraces. Rows carry a left root-marker stem; nothing is squared into identical boxes.

Moss and parchment hold the whole survey; the clay accent is spent once, here, at the spring. When the reading aligns, the survey is sealed.
