rules
Use an asymmetric product-console composition: one dominant device preview and calibration map, then smaller cards that orbit it with generous gutters.
Comfortable product density with large breathing gaps, compact control rows, and no evenly repeated same-size card wall.
Black typography, warm-white surface depth, and the physical size of color fields create hierarchy; color is largest when it is actionable or data-bearing.
layout
desktop 1200px, tablet 760px, mobile 360px with stacked hero-first flow
Twelve-column desktop grid with a deliberate hero span of seven columns and supporting cards on the remaining columns.
Large 48-64px page gutters contrast with tight 8px label clusters and 16px card internal rhythm.
guidance
- Use vivid accents only as content-bearing areas such as active presets, calibration maps, charts, and onboarding choices.
- Keep chrome, typography, and navigation nearly monochrome so color feels authored and premium.
- Preserve large white gutters between complementary fields to make the palette feel calibrated.
- Do not add decorative side rails, left stripes, confetti, blobs, or square-grid wallpaper.
- Do not reduce color to tiny badges or status dots when it should structure the module.
- Do not use generic dashboard card repetition or textbook color-theory page styling.

# Calibrated Color Field Hardware
## Overview
A pristine hardware companion interface where warm white product surfaces are punctuated by large, authored color-theory fields that carry state, choice, and data rather than decoration.
### Values
- premium neutrality as the foundation
- vivid color used as product structure
- calibrated pairings with semantic restraint
- quiet hardware-like chrome and spacing
### Anti-Values
- rainbow garnish and arbitrary confetti
- generic SaaS dashboards or admin templates
- decorative one-sided card stripes
- neon cyberpunk glow
### Visual Character
- Warm white cards sit on a soft porcelain background with hairline translucent borders and no generic drop-shadow stack.
- Large inset rectangular color fields occupy real module area for selections, charts, and onboarding choices instead of small badges.
- Complementary color pairs are grouped as two-plane CSS swatches with black typography and generous white gutters between them.
- Hardware chrome controls use pill radii, thin gray keylines, and compact black labels to keep vivid panels product-first.
- A quiet non-boxy point texture appears only in empty background zones at very low opacity, never as a square grid wallpaper.
## Colors
Use the YAML color tokens as the normative palette. The prose below names the roles agents should preserve when generating UI.
| Token | Value |
|-------|-------|
| accent | `#D7F64A` |
| background | `#F7F5F0` |
| border | `#DCD8CE` |
| error | `#C9342B` |
| info | `#2F6BFF` |
| muted | `#77746D` |
| primary | `#1557FF` |
| secondary | `#FF5638` |
| success | `#20A66A` |
| surface | `#FFFDF8` |
| text | `#111113` |
| warning | `#DCA60A` |

## Components
### Composition
Use an asymmetric product-console composition: one dominant device preview and calibration map, then smaller cards that orbit it with generous gutters.
### Density
Comfortable product density with large breathing gaps, compact control rows, and no evenly repeated same-size card wall.
### Hierarchy
Black typography, warm-white surface depth, and the physical size of color fields create hierarchy; color is largest when it is actionable or data-bearing.
### Signature Patterns
- Inset color-field modules use CSS grid sub-areas so color owns a meaningful rectangle inside a card rather than a border or icon.
- Pairing swatches appear as adjacent complementary planes with a precise white calibration gutter and overlaid mono temperature labels.
- Selected states enlarge the chosen painted field and move the checkmark into the field, making selection a spatial change not a garnish.
- Charts use broad painted bands behind measured black ticks so quantitative information is embedded in color-theory exercises.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019e45e6-5a43-7980-971a-a653a990ce07/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Use vivid accents only as content-bearing areas such as active presets, calibration maps, charts, and onboarding choices.
- Do Keep chrome, typography, and navigation nearly monochrome so color feels authored and premium.
- Do Preserve large white gutters between complementary fields to make the palette feel calibrated.
- Don't Do not add decorative side rails, left stripes, confetti, blobs, or square-grid wallpaper.
- Don't Do not reduce color to tiny badges or status dots when it should structure the module.
- Don't Do not use generic dashboard card repetition or textbook color-theory page styling.

## Visual character to preserve

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/calibrated-color-field-hardware/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use vivid accents only as content-bearing areas such as active presets, calibration maps, charts, and onboarding choices.; Keep chrome, typography, and navigation nearly monochrome so color feels authored and premium.; Preserve large white gutters between complementary fields to make the palette feel calibrated.
- Do not: Do not add decorative side rails, left stripes, confetti, blobs, or square-grid wallpaper.; Do not reduce color to tiny badges or status dots when it should structure the module.; Do not use generic dashboard card repetition or textbook color-theory page styling.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
```tsx
import { Badge } from "@/components/ui/badge";
import { Button } from "@/components/ui/button";
CardTitle,
} from "@/components/ui/card";
import { Input } from "@/components/ui/input";
import { Tabs, TabsList, TabsTrigger } from "@/components/ui/tabs";
