rules
Use an asymmetric operational workspace: compact command/navigation rail, large authoring canvas, and one off-axis decision surface that crosses alignment to make hierarchy unmistakable.
Balanced high-density product UI with generous internal padding and strong grouping; dense lists are allowed only when dividers and typographic contrast preserve scanning.
Hierarchy comes from scale jumps, clipped underlays, and registration offsets. The largest active work surface owns the page; supporting data stays smaller and quieter.
layout
mobile 375px, tablet 768px, desktop 1200px and above
Desktop uses a 72px margin, 220px command rail, and flexible canvas on CSS grid; tablet stacks rail above canvas; mobile becomes a single column with sticky command chips.
Whitespace is uneven by design: 8px tight control gaps, 24px module gaps, and at least one 64px calm field around the hero decision surface.
guidance
- Use accent color only for selected, warning, AI-suggested, or confirmed states with visible structural underlays.
- Keep body text horizontal, readable, and around 65-75 characters; reserve rotated text for short index labels.
- Style every control with clipped corners, clear focus rings, and registration-shift hover states.
- Let one compositional break carry the postmodern reference; keep all other modules calm and useful.
- Do not use square-grid backgrounds, dotted fields, decorative side rails, or colored card stripes.
- Do not scatter Memphis shapes, confetti, rainbow palettes, vaporwave gradients, or arcade typography.
- Do not wrap every item in nested rounded cards; use spacing, dividers, and stencil outlines.
- Do not use generic SaaS dashboard metrics unless the scene content demands operational measures.

# Offset Kata Control Room ## Philosophy A clean product language that translates postmodern contradiction through katagami-like cut shapes, offset registration, and asymmetric hierarchy for intelligent operational tools rather than nostalgic decoration. ### Values - Controlled contradiction: one deliberate spatial interruption per view creates authorship without chaos. - Cut-paper precision: geometry behaves like layered stencil apertures that reveal hierarchy and state. - Product usefulness first: every accent color, notch, and offset layer marks priority, selection, risk, or workflow phase. - 2026 restraint: quiet surfaces, high contrast text, and AI-assist affordances replace retro costume cues. ### Anti-Values - Memphis cosplay, confetti, rainbow sprawl, arcade skins, or ironic disorder. - Square-grid wallpaper, decorative side rails, colored card stripes, and dotted texture as default filler. - Generic SaaS dashboard composition with interchangeable rounded cards and ornamental metrics. ### Visual Character - Asymmetric two-column CSS grid with a narrow command rail and a wider work canvas; one featured panel intentionally breaks the column alignment using transform and grid-column span. - Layered stencil surfaces use polygonal clip-path corners and inset border shadows so cards feel cut and registered rather than softly rounded or generically elevated. - Color appears as semantic underlay planes behind active modules, using muted persimmon, mineral blue, and oxidized green only for priority, intelligence, and confirmation states. - Small rotated capsule labels and overprinted index marks sit partly outside selected panels to create postmodern tension while preserving readable horizontal body content. ## Tokens ### Borders - **Accent Width**: 3px - **Character**: dark ink-like structural outlines; accent bars are separate sharp tabs, never one-sided colored borders on rounded cards - **Default Width**: 1.5px - **Style**: solid with occasional double-register inset line ### Colors | Name | Value | |------|-------| | accent | `#D4B34A` | | background | `#F4F0E6` | | border | `#393B35` | | error | `#A53B32` | | info | `#356A8A` | | muted | `#6E6A5F` | | primary | `#1F4D58` | | secondary | `#C8633B` | | success | `#356F55` | | surface | `#FFFCF3` | | text | `#20242A` | | warning | `#B8872E` | ### Motion - **Duration**: 180ms - **Easing**: cubic-bezier(0.2, 0.8, 0.2, 1) - **Philosophy**: selected elements make a short registration shift via translate and underlay reveal; no bounce, no opacity-only fades ### Radii - **Full**: 9999px - **Lg**: 10px - **Md**: 6px - **None**: 0 - **Sm**: 2px ### Shadows - **Lg**: 14px 14px 0 rgba(32,36,42,0.14) - **Md**: 8px 8px 0 rgba(32,36,42,0.12) - **Sm**: 4px 4px 0 rgba(32,36,42,0.10) ### Spacing - **Base**: 8px - **Scale**: [4,8,12,16,24,32,48,64] ### Surfaces - **Bg Pattern**: none; background is clean warm field with sparse oversized cut-arc shapes only where they anchor composition - **Card Style**: flat high-contrast border, clipped opposing corners, occasional offset underlay plane for active or important modules - **Treatment**: warm paper base with crisp clipped stencil panels, no default dots, no square grid pattern ### Typography - **Base Size**: 16px - **Body Font**: Albert Sans - **Google Fonts Url**: https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Albert+Sans:ital,wght@0,400;0,500;0,650;0,800;1,500&family=Familjen+Grotesk:wght@500;600;700&family=Fragment+Mono&display=swap - **Heading Font**: Familjen Grotesk - **Letter Spacing**: -0.02em - **Line Height**: 1.55 - **Mono Font**: Fragment Mono - **Scale Ratio**: 1.28 ## Rules ### Composition Use an asymmetric operational workspace: compact command/navigation rail, large authoring canvas, and one off-axis decision surface that crosses alignment to make hierarchy unmistakable. ### Density Balanced high-density product UI with generous internal padding and strong grouping; dense lists are allowed only when dividers and typographic contrast preserve scanning. ### Hierarchy Hierarchy comes from scale jumps, clipped underlays, and registration offsets. # Offset Kata Control Room
## Overview
A clean product language that translates postmodern contradiction through katagami-like cut shapes, offset registration, and asymmetric hierarchy for intelligent operational tools rather than nostalgic decoration.
### Values
- Controlled contradiction: one deliberate spatial interruption per view creates authorship without chaos.
- Cut-paper precision: geometry behaves like layered stencil apertures that reveal hierarchy and state.
- Product usefulness first: every accent color, notch, and offset layer marks priority, selection, risk, or workflow phase.
- 2026 restraint: quiet surfaces, high contrast text, and AI-assist affordances replace retro costume cues.
### Anti-Values
- Memphis cosplay, confetti, rainbow sprawl, arcade skins, or ironic disorder.
- Square-grid wallpaper, decorative side rails, colored card stripes, and dotted texture as default filler.
- Generic SaaS dashboard composition with interchangeable rounded cards and ornamental metrics.
### Visual Character
- Asymmetric two-column CSS grid with a narrow command rail and a wider work canvas; one featured panel intentionally breaks the column alignment using transform and grid-column span.
- Layered stencil surfaces use polygonal clip-path corners and inset border shadows so cards feel cut and registered rather than softly rounded or generically elevated.
- Color appears as semantic underlay planes behind active modules, using muted persimmon, mineral blue, and oxidized green only for priority, intelligence, and confirmation states.
- Small rotated capsule labels and overprinted index marks sit partly outside selected panels to create postmodern tension while preserving readable horizontal body content.
## Colors

## Components
### Composition
Use an asymmetric operational workspace: compact command/navigation rail, large authoring canvas, and one off-axis decision surface that crosses alignment to make hierarchy unmistakable.
### Density
Balanced high-density product UI with generous internal padding and strong grouping; dense lists are allowed only when dividers and typographic contrast preserve scanning.
### Hierarchy
Hierarchy comes from scale jumps, clipped underlays, and registration offsets. The largest active work surface owns the page; supporting data stays smaller and quieter.
### Signature Patterns
- Registration-shift active state: selected cards and buttons translate -3px/-3px to reveal a colored underlay plane that encodes semantic purpose.
- Stencil-cut container geometry: panels use clip-path polygons with two clipped corners plus inset double-register lines instead of generic soft rounded rectangles.
- Interrupting index tabs: compact rotated or offset labels attach to important modules as separate sharp capsules, never decorative side rails or colored card stripes.
- Clean field with anchored cut arcs: large low-contrast circular cutouts sit at page edges to create authored asymmetry without dotted texture or square grid wallpaper.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019e4692-e879-7053-92ed-e2cf6e7d4b08/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Use accent color only for selected, warning, AI-suggested, or confirmed states with visible structural underlays.
- Do Keep body text horizontal, readable, and around 65-75 characters; reserve rotated text for short index labels.
- Do Style every control with clipped corners, clear focus rings, and registration-shift hover states.
- Do Let one compositional break carry the postmodern reference; keep all other modules calm and useful.
- Don't Do not use square-grid backgrounds, dotted fields, decorative side rails, or colored card stripes.
- Don't Do not scatter Memphis shapes, confetti, rainbow palettes, vaporwave gradients, or arcade typography.
- Don't Do not wrap every item in nested rounded cards; use spacing, dividers, and stencil outlines.
- Don't Do not use generic SaaS dashboard metrics unless the scene content demands operational measures.

- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox

## Visual character to preserve
## ShadSync visual profile

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/offset-kata-control-room/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use accent color only for selected, warning, AI-suggested, or confirmed states with visible structural underlays.; Keep body text horizontal, readable, and around 65-75 characters; reserve rotated text for short index labels.; Style every control with clipped corners, clear focus rings, and registration-shift hover states.; Let one compositional break carry the postmodern reference; keep all other modules calm and useful.
- Do not: Do not use square-grid backgrounds, dotted fields, decorative side rails, or colored card stripes.; Do not scatter Memphis shapes, confetti, rainbow palettes, vaporwave gradients, or arcade typography.; Do not wrap every item in nested rounded cards; use spacing, dividers, and stencil outlines.; Do not use generic SaaS dashboard metrics unless the scene content demands operational measures.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
