composition
Use a calm asymmetric product shell: left capsule rail, central translucent work surface, and a compact right-side context lens that collapses below content on small screens.
density

Medium product density with 8px rhythm, compact capsules, and table rows tall enough for touch without turning into sparse marketing cards.

hierarchy
Display type is reserved for one concise product headline; information hierarchy comes from shell elevation, rim brightness, type weight, and semantic color lenses.
signature patterns
Gradient-border chrome rims wrap every major surface with a one-pixel line and inset white highlight, creating Y2K material memory without heavy skeuomorphism.A single prismatic underglow sits behind the active workflow card and moves by composition, not as repeated decoration on every panel.Capsule state lenses use small oval fills and monochrome labels to encode status, focus, and priority while avoiding decorative stripes or rails.Translucent stacked shells overlap by 12 to 24 pixels with blur and z-depth, making product hierarchy feel like modern glass-plastic layers.
layout
breakpoints

desktop >= 1120px, tablet 720px-1119px, mobile < 720px

grid
Responsive asymmetric shell using CSS grid columns minmax(180px,220px) minmax(0,1fr) minmax(260px,340px), then two columns on tablet and a single stacked flow on mobile.
whitespace

Large outer padding, 16-24px internal gutters, and quiet negative space around focal shells so color glows can breathe without clutter.

guidance
do
  • Use cyan for active focus and information, lime for success/available, coral for warnings or urgent human action, and magenta only for selected creative emphasis.
  • Keep chrome as hairline borders, inset highlights, and small glints on focus states rather than full metallic fills.
  • Compose real application screens with shells, tables, forms, status lenses, and contextual command surfaces.
  • Preserve capsule geometry consistently across filters, tabs, switches, badges, and primary buttons.
avoid
  • Do not use square-grid backgrounds, default dotted textures, decorative left rails, colored card stripes, or confetti.
  • Do not spread rainbow gradients across all cards; every accent color must signal state, focus, or product meaning.
  • Do not rely on generic dashboard charts or safe white cards without the translucent shell/rim system.
  • Do not use novelty Y2K type for body copy or reduce the language to a pure aqua-era costume.

# Prismatic Shell Product UI

## Philosophy

A clean 2026 product interface language that reinterprets Y2K optimism as translucent shell hierarchy, restrained prismatic light, capsule navigation, and soft chrome control edges without becoming a nostalgic skin.

### Values

- Translucency used to separate workflow layers rather than decorate empty space
- Optimistic digital color assigned to system state, focus, and high-value actions
- Chrome and gloss reduced to hairline highlights, bevel masks, and small control glints
- Capsule geometry applied consistently to navigation, filters, and primary actions
- Readable modern product density with calm typography and clear interaction states

### Anti-Values

- Pure aqua-era throwback, vaporwave wallpaper, arcade chrome, or rainbow nostalgia
- Square-grid backgrounds, repeated dotted texture, decorative side rails, card stripes, and color garnish
- Generic SaaS dashboard panels that could accept any palette swap
- Illegible novelty type, arbitrary confetti, or gloss that competes with information

### Visual Character

- Layered translucent panels use backdrop-filter blur, white-to-cyan alpha fills, and a dark inner rim so depth is structural rather than decorative.
- Chrome shell edges are built from one-pixel gradient borders plus inset highlight shadows on cards, buttons, inputs, and active tabs.
- Capsule controls share 999px radius, compact vertical rhythm, and small oval status lenses so geometry remains consistent across navigation and forms.
- Prismatic color appears as restrained radial glows behind key regions and as semantic token states, never as full rainbow surfaces or repeated wallpaper.
- Layouts use asymmetric clean product zones with generous negative space, no square grid background, and a single floating command surface for workflow focus.

## Components

### Composition

Use a calm asymmetric product shell: left capsule rail, central translucent work surface, and a compact right-side context lens that collapses below content on small screens.

Display type is reserved for one concise product headline; information hierarchy comes from shell elevation, rim brightness, type weight, and semantic color lenses.

### Signature Patterns

## shadcn/ui Usage

When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.

DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019e4694-fe1f-7ca1-8e71-d649cb515435/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.

The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.

Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.

## Do's and Don'ts

- Do Use cyan for active focus and information, lime for success/available, coral for warnings or urgent human action, and magenta only for selected creative emphasis.
- Do Keep chrome as hairline borders, inset highlights, and small glints on focus states rather than full metallic fills.
- Do Compose real application screens with shells, tables, forms, status lenses, and contextual command surfaces.
- Do Preserve capsule geometry consistently across filters, tabs, switches, badges, and primary buttons.
- Don't Do not use square-grid backgrounds, default dotted textures, decorative left rails, colored card stripes, or confetti.
- Don't Do not spread rainbow gradients across all cards; every accent color must signal state, focus, or product meaning.
- Don't Do not rely on generic dashboard charts or safe white cards without the translucent shell/rim system.
- Don't Do not use novelty Y2K type for body copy or reduce the language to a pure aqua-era costume.

# Prismatic Shell Product UI shadcn/ui Components

Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019e4694-fe1f-7ca1-8e71-d649cb515435`
Slug: `prismatic-shell-product-ui`

## Intent

A clean 2026 product interface language that reinterprets Y2K optimism as translucent shell hierarchy, restrained prismatic light, capsule navigation, and soft chrome control edges without becoming a nostalgic skin.

## Required primitives

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

}

## Visual character to preserve

- Layered translucent panels use backdrop-filter blur, white-to-cyan alpha fills, and a dark inner rim so depth is structural rather than decorative.
- Chrome shell edges are built from one-pixel gradient borders plus inset highlight shadows on cards, buttons, inputs, and active tabs.
- Capsule controls share 999px radius, compact vertical rhythm, and small oval status lenses so geometry remains consistent across navigation and forms.
- Prismatic color appears as restrained radial glows behind key regions and as semantic token states, never as full rainbow surfaces or repeated wallpaper.
- Layouts use asymmetric clean product zones with generous negative space, no square grid background, and a single floating command surface for workflow focus.

## Signature component recipes

### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.

### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.

### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.

### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.

### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.

## Preview shots

- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.

## Implementation contract

- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/prismatic-shell-product-ui/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use cyan for active focus and information, lime for success/available, coral for warnings or urgent human action, and magenta only for selected creative emphasis.; Keep chrome as hairline borders, inset highlights, and small glints on focus states rather than full metallic fills.; Compose real application screens with shells, tables, forms, status lenses, and contextual command surfaces.; Preserve capsule geometry consistently across filters, tabs, switches, badges, and primary buttons.
- Do not: Do not use square-grid backgrounds, default dotted textures, decorative left rails, colored card stripes, or confetti.; Do not spread rainbow gradients across all cards; every accent color must signal state, focus, or product meaning.; Do not rely on generic dashboard charts or safe white cards without the translucent shell/rim system.; Do not use novelty Y2K type for body copy or reduce the language to a pure aqua-era costume.

## Copy-paste component example

This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
