rules
Organize screens around one dominant modular planting map, then attach operations, alerts, and data ledgers as seed-packet panels on the same square grid.
Medium-high operational density is allowed, but every cluster must align to 12px cells and preserve generous cream gutters between garden zones.
Use Fraunces for civic garden titles, Atkinson Hyperlegible for readable field operations, and Recursive Mono for coordinates, crop codes, water levels, and tile state labels.
layout
Desktop 1200px uses map plus side ledger; tablet 768px stacks map above two-column cards; mobile 375px becomes a single-column field notebook with horizontal tile strips.
A 12-column desktop grid snapped to 12px garden cells; major modules span 3, 4, 6, or 8 columns and nest internal CSS grids for beds.
Cream gutters of 24px to 48px separate ecological zones; within cards, spacing stays on 8px increments to keep the seed-packet rhythm compact and readable.
guidance
- Use pixel structure as the planning logic for maps, controls, tables, and badges.
- Keep the palette grounded in leaf greens, sun yellows, soil browns, and warm seed-paper cream.
- Reserve sprites for ecological signage and state labels, never as random decoration.
- Make data operational with real bed coordinates, water levels, seed lots, and pollinator corridor tasks.
- Do not imitate arcade games, neon cyber terminals, or chunky illegible bitmap paragraphs.
- Do not paste a normal dashboard over a green dotted background and call it solarpunk.
- Do not use blurry glass panels, generic gradients, or mixed arbitrary rounded corners.
- Do not let cute sprites overpower map hierarchy, accessibility, or product content.

# Sproutgrid Sunpatch OS
## Overview
A solarpunk pixel garden operating system where municipal planting beds, seed swaps, water loops, and pollinator corridors are managed through cheerful bitmap maps that behave like ecological signage rather than retro nostalgia.
### Values
- Civic stewardship made legible through square planting modules
- Warm ecological optimism with practical operational density
- Pixel craft used as map grammar, icon system, and state language
- Accessible high-contrast controls that stay friendly for families and field crews
### Anti-Values
- Arcade nostalgia, neon game references, or novelty 8-bit typography
- Generic green SaaS dashboards with decorative leaves pasted on top
- Soft glassmorphism, blurry shadows, and arbitrary pill radii
### Visual Character
- A 12px bitmap garden grid underlays the whole interface using CSS repeating-linear-gradients, with selected bed modules rendered as crisp square cells rather than soft cards.
- Cards and controls use square or 4px radii, 2px soil-brown borders, and offset block shadows that read like raised ceramic plant markers.
- Micro-sprites are built from inline CSS grid mosaics and placed only as ecological signage for bee lanes, water barrels, compost, seedlings, and harvest alerts.
- Dithered sun and soil panels use layered radial and linear gradients clipped to rectangular map parcels, creating low-resolution warmth without photographic texture.
- Navigation and data tables align to planting-map columns with numbered tile coordinates, small mono labels, and high-contrast seed-packet badges.
## Colors

## Components
### Composition
Organize screens around one dominant modular planting map, then attach operations, alerts, and data ledgers as seed-packet panels on the same square grid.
### Density
Medium-high operational density is allowed, but every cluster must align to 12px cells and preserve generous cream gutters between garden zones.
### Hierarchy
Use Fraunces for civic garden titles, Atkinson Hyperlegible for readable field operations, and Recursive Mono for coordinates, crop codes, water levels, and tile state labels.
### Signature Patterns
- Planting-map hero panels combine CSS grid cells, dithered sun overlays, coordinate labels, and crop-color squares to make planning itself the primary interface artifact.
- Ecological signage sprites appear as 5-by-5 or 6-by-6 CSS mosaic icons inside badges, tabs, and table rows, changing only for meaningful states like pollinator, water, compost, or harvest.
- Seed-packet cards use 2px soil borders, inner dashed rails, clipped square corners, and offset block shadows so containers feel printed and tactile.
- Controls express state with stepped tile motion: selected tabs shift exactly 4px, switches fill as square garden beds, and focus rings are sun-yellow cell outlines.
- Dither bands are reserved for sun exposure, moisture, and soil richness panels, where low-resolution texture communicates ecological data rather than decoration.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019e6997-b062-7532-8ebd-0d1645815f2a/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Use pixel structure as the planning logic for maps, controls, tables, and badges.
- Do Keep the palette grounded in leaf greens, sun yellows, soil browns, and warm seed-paper cream.

- Do Make data operational with real bed coordinates, water levels, seed lots, and pollinator corridor tasks.
- Don't Do not imitate arcade games, neon cyber terminals, or chunky illegible bitmap paragraphs.
- Don't Do not paste a normal dashboard over a green dotted background and call it solarpunk.
- Don't Do not use blurry glass panels, generic gradients, or mixed arbitrary rounded corners.
- Don't Do not let cute sprites overpower map hierarchy, accessibility, or product content.

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip

## Visual character to preserve
- A 12px bitmap garden grid underlays the whole interface using CSS repeating-linear-gradients, with selected bed modules rendered as crisp square cells rather than soft cards.
- Cards and controls use square or 4px radii, 2px soil-brown borders, and offset block shadows that read like raised ceramic plant markers.
- Micro-sprites are built from inline CSS grid mosaics and placed only as ecological signage for bee lanes, water barrels, compost, seedlings, and harvest alerts.
- Dithered sun and soil panels use layered radial and linear gradients clipped to rectangular map parcels, creating low-resolution warmth without photographic texture.
- Navigation and data tables align to planting-map columns with numbered tile coordinates, small mono labels, and high-contrast seed-packet badges.

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/sproutgrid-sunpatch-os/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use pixel structure as the planning logic for maps, controls, tables, and badges.; Keep the palette grounded in leaf greens, sun yellows, soil browns, and warm seed-paper cream.; Reserve sprites for ecological signage and state labels, never as random decoration.; Make data operational with real bed coordinates, water levels, seed lots, and pollinator corridor tasks.
- Do not: Do not imitate arcade games, neon cyber terminals, or chunky illegible bitmap paragraphs.; Do not paste a normal dashboard over a green dotted background and call it solarpunk.; Do not use blurry glass panels, generic gradients, or mixed arbitrary rounded corners.; Do not let cute sprites overpower map hierarchy, accessibility, or product content.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
