rules
Use a production-desk composition with one dominant reading pane, a denser source ledger, a slim navigation rail, and a right inspector. Avoid equal cards; panels must differ in width, density, and visual tempo. Preserve a broad paper margin around the whole shell and let the grid continue behind panels so the system feels ruled rather than boxed.
Density is intentionally mixed: the source ledger and inspector are compact, while the article pane has wider line length, 48px internal breathing room, and a large note field. Tight 4-8px clusters sit inside modules, while unrelated zones separate by 64-96px on desktop.
Start hierarchy with type: STIX Two Text for editorial titles at tight leading, Albert Sans for all operative UI, and DM Mono for keyboard hints, timestamps, counts, and command syntax. Color only marks live state. Large text uses -0.035em tracking and body/control text uses -0.02em tracking.
layout
desktop >= 1200px uses four app regions; tablet 760px-1199px collapses inspector below the reader and keeps the ledger beside it; mobile < 760px stacks rail, reader, ledger, and inspector with horizontal command chips.
Use dense source and command areas only when paired with a calmer editorial surface so the screen reads as a working desk rather than a wall of widgets.
Desktop uses a 56px rail, a 340px ledger column, a minmax 420px editorial reading pane, and a 300px inspector inside a 24px page gutter; columns are separated by 16px gaps over a visible 64px ledger grid.
At tablet and mobile sizes, preserve the same hierarchy by moving the inspector after the reading pane, converting the rail to a top strip, and keeping tables horizontally legible through compact rows rather than shrinking text below 15px.
Whitespace ranges from 4px row metadata gaps to 96px page-level breathing zones; the reader pane receives the largest padding while ledgers remain compact.
guidance
- Use warm neutral foundations, ink text, and muted gridlines before introducing blue-violet accent color.
- Make the active state visible through full outlines, square markers, text weight, and command labels, not color alone.
- Keep charts to a single accent family with neutral comparison marks and directly labeled values.
- Use serif display type only for editorial object titles and major reading moments; keep operational controls in the sans face.
- Vary density deliberately: compact ledgers and inspectors must sit beside a calmer reading panel.
- Style all buttons, inputs, tabs, progress bars, tables, and command palette items with the same ruled-paper grammar.
- Maintain WCAG AA contrast for text and focus states, with body copy at 15px or larger and touch targets near 44px on mobile.
- Let near-invisible borders and printed rules do separation work before shadows or filled backgrounds.
- Do not use generic SaaS metric cards, colorful dashboards, CRM layouts, or vague analytics modules.
- Do not add a third accent hue; status colors should be rare and semantic, not part of the brand palette.
- Do not combine one-sided colored borders with rounded panels; use a separate square marker or full outline instead.
- Do not use gradients, glassmorphism, pastel panels, emoji, stickers, or faux notebook decoration.
- Do not center all panels or make every card equal width and weight.
- Do not rely on opacity-only hover states; include border, transform, or color shifts with clear focus treatment.
- Do not shrink text below accessibility thresholds to force density.
- Do not hide the grid everywhere; the muted ledger rule is the language signature.

# Ledger Prism Editorial Shell ## Philosophy A paper-led editorial operations language for dense research desks where articles, sources, charts, and review commands must coexist without becoming a generic analytics dashboard. It borrows from printed production ledgers: warm neutral sheets, ink-first hierarchy, faint ruled grids, and one vivid blue-violet prism accent used only for live selection, chart emphasis, and keyboard focus. ### Values - Paper before chrome: the interface should feel like a carefully ruled working sheet rather than a stack of glossy SaaS cards. - Ink hierarchy: text weight, size, case, and line rules establish order before color is allowed to intervene. - Keyboard-first clarity: active rows, command palettes, focus states, and review queues must be unmistakable at speed. - Data restraint: charts use a reduced blue-violet family with neutral comparison marks so editorial meaning is not diluted by rainbow coding. - Authored density: dense modules are balanced by one spacious reading pane and deliberate marginal gutters. - Accessibility as craft: accent color is paired with shape, weight, and label changes rather than being the sole cue. ### Anti-Values - No generic SaaS analytics tiles, pastel metric cards, glass panels, or gradient call-to-action buttons. - No rainbow data palettes; secondary data marks must be neutral or belong to the same blue-violet family. - No decorative paper nostalgia such as torn edges, stickers, emojis, or faux hand-drawn embellishment. - No default browser controls or unstyled tables; every interactive element belongs to the ledger system. ### Visual Character - Use a warm paper page background with ivory panels, overlaid by repeating 1px horizontal and vertical grid rules at low black opacity. - Build the shell as an asymmetric editorial desk: narrow left rail, dense source ledger, oversized reading pane, and a compact right inspector. - Apply ink-like hierarchy with serif display titles, sans functional body text, uppercase micro labels, and mono command hints all tracked at -0.02em or tighter. - Limit chroma to a single blue-violet prism family used for active rows, chart bars, focus rings, and command palette selection states. - Use flat 16px rounded paper panels with near-invisible borders and no decorative shadows except a subtle ink lift on the command palette. ## Tokens ### Borders - **Accent Width**: 2px - **Character**: Borders are ink hairlines expressed with rgba(21,20,17,0.08); emphasis uses full 2px outlines or separate square markers, never one-sided colored borders on rounded panels. - **Default Width**: 1px - **Style**: solid ### Colors | Name | Value | |------|-------| | accent | `#2447D8` | | background | `#FBFAF4` | | border | `#151411` | | error | `#A9443B` | | info | `#2F5BFF` | | muted | `#6F6A60` | | primary | `#2F5BFF` | | secondary | `#6D5BFF` | | success | `#3F7454` | | surface | `#FFFDF7` | | text | `#151411` | | warning | `#9A6A18` | ### Motion - **Duration**: 160ms - **Easing**: cubic-bezier(0.2, 0, 0.1, 1) - **Philosophy**: Motion feels like an editorial desk responding to key commands: fast focus rings, slight row translation on hover, and no bouncy or decorative transitions. ### Radii - **Full**: 9999px - **Lg**: 16px - **Md**: 16px - **None**: 0 - **Sm**: 16px ### Shadows - **Lg**: 0 32px 90px rgba(21,20,17,0.16) - **Md**: 0 18px 50px rgba(21,20,17,0.12) - **Sm**: 0 1px 0 rgba(21,20,17,0.08) ### Spacing - **Base**: 8px - **Scale**: [4,8,12,16,24,32,48,64,96] ### Surfaces - **Bg Pattern**: Page background uses two repeating-linear-gradient layers: 64px vertical columns and 28px baseline rows, both extremely muted. - **Card Style**: Flat 16px paper panels, 1px rgba(21,20,17,0.08) borders, compact headings, and no color fill unless selected. - **Treatment**: Warm paper surfaces with a faint ledger grid made from linear-gradient rules at rgba(21,20,17,0.045). ### Typography - **Base Size**: 16px - **Body Font**: Albert Sans - **Google Fonts Url**: https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Albert+Sans:wght@400;500;600;700&family=DM+Mono:wght@400;500&family=STIX+Two+Text:wght@500;600;700&display=swap - **Heading Font**: STIX Two Text - **Letter Spacing**: -0.02em - **Line Height**: 1.55 - **Mono Font**: DM Mono - **Scale Ratio**: 1.25 ## Rules ### Composition Use a production-desk composition with one dominant reading pane, a denser source ledger, a slim navigation rail, and a right inspector. # Ledger Prism Editorial Shell
## Overview
A paper-led editorial operations language for dense research desks where articles, sources, charts, and review commands must coexist without becoming a generic analytics dashboard. It borrows from printed production ledgers: warm neutral sheets, ink-first hierarchy, faint ruled grids, and one vivid blue-violet prism accent used only for live selection, chart emphasis, and keyboard focus.
### Values
- Paper before chrome: the interface should feel like a carefully ruled working sheet rather than a stack of glossy SaaS cards.
### Anti-Values
- No generic SaaS analytics tiles, pastel metric cards, glass panels, or gradient call-to-action buttons.
### Visual Character
- Use a warm paper page background with ivory panels, overlaid by repeating 1px horizontal and vertical grid rules at low black opacity.
## Colors
Use the YAML color tokens as the normative palette. The prose below names the roles agents should preserve when generating UI.

## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/ledger-prism-editorial-shell/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Use warm neutral foundations, ink text, and muted gridlines before introducing blue-violet accent color.
- Do Make the active state visible through full outlines, square markers, text weight, and command labels, not color alone.
- Do Keep charts to a single accent family with neutral comparison marks and directly labeled values.
- Do Use serif display type only for editorial object titles and major reading moments; keep operational controls in the sans face.
- Do Vary density deliberately: compact ledgers and inspectors must sit beside a calmer reading panel.
- Do Style all buttons, inputs, tabs, progress bars, tables, and command palette items with the same ruled-paper grammar.
- Do Maintain WCAG AA contrast for text and focus states, with body copy at 15px or larger and touch targets near 44px on mobile.
- Do Let near-invisible borders and printed rules do separation work before shadows or filled backgrounds.
- Don't Do not use generic SaaS metric cards, colorful dashboards, CRM layouts, or vague analytics modules.
- Don't Do not add a third accent hue; status colors should be rare and semantic, not part of the brand palette.
- Don't Do not combine one-sided colored borders with rounded panels; use a separate square marker or full outline instead.
- Don't Do not use gradients, glassmorphism, pastel panels, emoji, stickers, or faux notebook decoration.
- Don't Do not center all panels or make every card equal width and weight.
- Don't Do not rely on opacity-only hover states; include border, transform, or color shifts with clear focus treatment.
- Don't Do not shrink text below accessibility thresholds to force density.
- Don't Do not hide the grid everywhere; the muted ledger rule is the language signature.
### Accessibility
Primary text on paper exceeds AA contrast; accent blue is used against white or paired with dark text, outlines, labels, and markers. Focus states use 2px outlines with offset. Data colors are directly labeled and never rely on hue alone.
### Usage Context
Best for editorial production desks, research review systems, publishing operations, regulatory commentary tools, source triage, and keyboard-first command interfaces where dense data and long-form reading meet.

# Ledger Prism Editorial Shell shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `ledger-prism-editorial-shell`
Slug: `ledger-prism-editorial-shell`
## Intent
A paper-led editorial operations language for dense research desks where articles, sources, charts, and review commands must coexist without becoming a generic analytics dashboard. It borrows from printed production ledgers: warm neutral sheets, ink-first hierarchy, faint ruled grids, and one vivid blue-violet prism accent used only for live selection, chart emphasis, and keyboard focus.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
## Token cues

"secondary": "#6D5BFF",
"success": "#3F7454",
"surface": "#FFFDF7",
"text": "#151411",
"warning": "#9A6A18"
}
Typography:
{
"base_size": "16px",
"body_font": "Albert Sans",
"google_fonts_url": "https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Albert+Sans:wght@400;500;600;700&family=DM+Mono:wght@400;500&family=STIX+Two+Text:wght@500;600;700&display=swap",

"letter_spacing": "-0.02em",
"line_height": 1.55,
"mono_font": "DM Mono",
"scale_ratio": 1.25
}
## Visual character to preserve
- Use a warm paper page background with ivory panels, overlaid by repeating 1px horizontal and vertical grid rules at low black opacity.

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/ledger-prism-editorial-shell/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use warm neutral foundations, ink text, and muted gridlines before introducing blue-violet accent color.; Make the active state visible through full outlines, square markers, text weight, and command labels, not color alone.; Keep charts to a single accent family with neutral comparison marks and directly labeled values.; Use serif display type only for editorial object titles and major reading moments; keep operational controls in the sans face.; Vary density deliberately: compact ledgers and inspectors must sit beside a calmer reading panel.; Style all buttons, inputs, tabs, progress bars, tables, and command palette items with the same ruled-paper grammar.; Maintain WCAG AA contrast for text and focus states, with body copy at 15px or larger and touch targets near 44px on mobile.; Let near-invisible borders and printed rules do separation work before shadows or filled backgrounds.
- Do not: Do not use generic SaaS metric cards, colorful dashboards, CRM layouts, or vague analytics modules.; Do not add a third accent hue; status colors should be rare and semantic, not part of the brand palette.; Do not combine one-sided colored borders with rounded panels; use a separate square marker or full outline instead.; Do not use gradients, glassmorphism, pastel panels, emoji, stickers, or faux notebook decoration.; Do not center all panels or make every card equal width and weight.; Do not rely on opacity-only hover states; include border, transform, or color shifts with clear focus treatment.; Do not shrink text below accessibility thresholds to force density.; Do not hide the grid everywhere; the muted ledger rule is the language signature.
