rules
Compose screens as asymmetric manga spreads: one dominant evidence panel, one vertical title rail, dense command output blocks, and large unoccupied paper fields. Gutters must be visible structure, not leftover space. Avoid equal card rows; every cluster needs a different scale or orientation.
Alternate dense terminal slabs and sparse white panels. The tightest prompt gaps can be 4px, while narrative separations reach 96px or 128px so calm negative space remains the dominant emotional register.
Hierarchy comes from border weight, black-white inversion, vertical type, and terminal density. Display headings use condensed Teko at tight line-height; operational copy uses Kode Mono; body annotations use restrained Noto Sans with mandatory negative tracking.
layout
Mobile below 640px stacks panels while preserving title rail as a top code strip; tablet 640-1024px uses two columns; desktop above 1024px restores asymmetric spread composition.
Medium-low overall density with deliberate pockets of terminal compression; the system should feel quiet, not empty.
Desktop uses a 12-column spread with 24px gutters and a max-width near 1320px; panels span uneven widths, including one 7-column dominant frame and one narrow vertical rail.
Whitespace is cinematic and asymmetric: preserve 64px to 128px paper fields around key panels, while prompts and metadata cluster at 4px to 12px.
guidance
- Use black, white, and grayscale as the real palette; introduce phosphor green only for live machine signal or focus.
- Make manga panel borders, gutters, and cropped frames the layout structure instead of adding decorative illustrations.
- Write real interface language: shell paths, timestamps, error codes, diagnostic labels, and command output with tabular alignment.
- Keep corners square except rare 16px containment for a viewport or device shell that needs separation.
- Vary scale aggressively: one dominant panel, one dense slab, one quiet void, and at least one vertical or rotated text moment.
- Apply -0.02em tracking to body text and tighter display tracking so the austerity feels polished rather than default.
- Use halftone and scanline textures below legibility thresholds and away from long body text.
- Pair any color-coded status with text, border weight, or a symbol so the accent is not the only cue.
- Do not use character art, anime eyes, mecha silhouettes, city neon, or other literal cosplay references.
- Do not build three equal analytics cards or a generic SaaS dashboard scene.
- Do not add glow, multi-color gradients, chromatic aberration, or rainbow hacker terminal palettes.
- Do not soften the language with large rounded cards, blue CTAs, or friendly product illustration.
- Do not cover small text with scanlines, halftone dots, or low-contrast gray overlays.
- Do not use the accent for decoration, icons in bulk, section backgrounds, or brand color flooding.
- Do not center every section; asymmetry and gutters must carry the manga spread rhythm.
- Do not let micrographics become clutter; every cursor, path, and code must imply function.

# Null Koma Terminal Noir ## Philosophy Null Koma Terminal Noir is a polished monochrome interface language for systems that feel observed rather than operated: manga panel grammar, command-line evidence, and cyberpunk calm reduced to black ink, paper white, grayscale wash, and a single rare phosphor signal. ### Values - Restraint before atmosphere: noir is created through omission, hard contrast, and silence rather than decorative darkness. - Panels as interface logic: manga koma borders define state, grouping, pacing, and narrative hierarchy. - Typed evidence over ornament: command prompts, paths, timestamps, and diagnostics carry the Y2K/system references structurally. - Existential calm: screens should feel precise, post-human, and unhurried even when reporting critical information. - Accent as signal only: phosphor green appears rarely for cursors, live diagnostics, and decisive machine acknowledgement. - Recognizable without color: the identity must survive entirely in border weight, gutters, type rhythm, and negative space. ### Anti-Values - Anime cosplay, mascot imagery, character art, neon city clichés, or references pasted on top of generic cards. - Busy hacker dashboards, glowing gradients, rainbow terminal palettes, or equal-weight analytics tiles. - Soft SaaS chrome: rounded grey cards, broad drop shadows, friendly blue CTAs, and center-aligned marketing symmetry. - Decorative scanlines over body text or micrographics that reduce legibility for the sake of texture. ### Visual Character - Use square black koma panels with 2px outer rules, 1px interior diagnostic frames, and cinematic gutters that become the primary layout grid. - Place a vertical condensed title rail on one edge with writing-mode vertical-rl, stacked section codes, and rotated timestamps for anime-title tension. - Render command output blocks as white-on-black terminal slabs with prompt cursors, shell paths, monospace tabular numerals, and clipped corner labels. - Build grayscale ink atmosphere through halftone radial masks, scanline dividers, and wash overlays at very low opacity, never through color gradients. - Reserve #7CFF9A phosphor green for live cursors, focus rings, one diagnostic state, and no more than a few tiny existential signal moments. ## Tokens ### Borders - **Accent Width**: 2px - **Character**: High-contrast black panel rules with hairline inner frames; accent border only for live phosphor focus states. - **Default Width**: 1px - **Style**: solid ### Colors | Name | Value | |------|-------| | accent | `#7CFF9A` | | background | `#FFFFFF` | | border | `#050505` | | error | `#B3261E` | | info | `#4B6470` | | muted | `#6E6E68` | | primary | `#050505` | | secondary | `#FFFFFF` | | success | `#2F7D4A` | | surface | `#F5F5F2` | | text | `#050505` | | warning | `#9A6A10` | ### Motion - **Duration**: 180ms - **Easing**: cubic-bezier(0.2, 0, 0, 1) - **Philosophy**: Motion is typed and diagnostic: cursor blink, tiny scan sweep, and panel state changes only; reduced-motion removes all animation. ### Radii - **Full**: 9999px - **Lg**: 16px - **Md**: 0 - **None**: 0 - **Sm**: 0 ### Shadows - **Lg**: 12px 12px 0 rgba(5,5,5,0.10) - **Md**: inset 0 0 0 1px rgba(5,5,5,0.08) - **Sm**: none ### Spacing - **Base**: 8px - **Scale**: [4,8,12,16,24,32,48,64,96,128] ### Surfaces - **Bg Pattern**: Sparse scanline dividers, path labels in gutters, and radial ink-dot masks anchored to corners. - **Card Style**: Square manga-panel frames, thick exterior rules, thin diagnostic inner frames, clipped code tabs. - **Treatment**: Pure paper white and near-black slabs with grayscale halftone wash layers below 0.08 opacity. ### Typography - **Base Size**: 16px - **Body Font**: Noto Sans - **Display Letter Spacing**: -0.035em - **Display Line Height**: 1.08 - **Google Fonts Url**: https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Kode+Mono:wght@400;500;600;700&family=Noto+Sans:wght@400;500;600;700&family=Teko:wght@500;600;700&display=swap - **Heading Font**: Teko - **Label Letter Spacing**: 0.08em - **Letter Spacing**: -0.02em - **Line Height**: 1.56 - **Mono Font**: Kode Mono - **Scale Ratio**: 1.24 ## Rules ### Composition Compose screens as asymmetric manga spreads: one dominant evidence panel, one vertical title rail, dense command output blocks, and large unoccupied paper fields. # Null Koma Terminal Noir
## Overview
Null Koma Terminal Noir is a polished monochrome interface language for systems that feel observed rather than operated: manga panel grammar, command-line evidence, and cyberpunk calm reduced to black ink, paper white, grayscale wash, and a single rare phosphor signal.
### Values
- Restraint before atmosphere: noir is created through omission, hard contrast, and silence rather than decorative darkness.
### Anti-Values
- Anime cosplay, mascot imagery, character art, neon city clichés, or references pasted on top of generic cards.
- Busy hacker dashboards, glowing gradients, rainbow terminal palettes, or equal-weight analytics tiles.
- Soft SaaS chrome: rounded grey cards, broad drop shadows, friendly blue CTAs, and center-aligned marketing symmetry.
- Decorative scanlines over body text or micrographics that reduce legibility for the sake of texture.
### Visual Character
- Use square black koma panels with 2px outer rules, 1px interior diagnostic frames, and cinematic gutters that become the primary layout grid.

## Components
### Composition
Compose screens as asymmetric manga spreads: one dominant evidence panel, one vertical title rail, dense command output blocks, and large unoccupied paper fields. Gutters must be visible structure, not leftover space. Avoid equal card rows; every cluster needs a different scale or orientation.
### Density
Alternate dense terminal slabs and sparse white panels. The tightest prompt gaps can be 4px, while narrative separations reach 96px or 128px so calm negative space remains the dominant emotional register.
### Hierarchy
Hierarchy comes from border weight, black-white inversion, vertical type, and terminal density. Display headings use condensed Teko at tight line-height; operational copy uses Kode Mono; body annotations use restrained Noto Sans with mandatory negative tracking.
### Signature Patterns
- Koma diagnostic frame: nested square panel borders with small shell-path tabs crossing the border and timestamp labels pinned into the gutter.
- Vertical anime-title rail: writing-mode vertical-rl type locked to the side of a spread, paired with rotated system codes and a thin scanline spine.
- Terminal noir inversion: selected panels flip to black ground with white monospace output, a phosphor cursor, and grid lines made from repeating-linear-gradient.
- Ink-wash halftone voids: grayscale radial dot fields sit in empty corners and fade under panel borders, giving manga texture without adding illustration.
- Cursor-state accent discipline: phosphor green appears only as a 1ch cursor, a 2px focus bracket, or a tiny status glyph accompanied by text.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/null-koma-terminal-noir/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Use black, white, and grayscale as the real palette; introduce phosphor green only for live machine signal or focus.
- Do Make manga panel borders, gutters, and cropped frames the layout structure instead of adding decorative illustrations.
- Do Write real interface language: shell paths, timestamps, error codes, diagnostic labels, and command output with tabular alignment.
- Do Keep corners square except rare 16px containment for a viewport or device shell that needs separation.
- Do Vary scale aggressively: one dominant panel, one dense slab, one quiet void, and at least one vertical or rotated text moment.
- Do Apply -0.02em tracking to body text and tighter display tracking so the austerity feels polished rather than default.
- Do Use halftone and scanline textures below legibility thresholds and away from long body text.
- Do Pair any color-coded status with text, border weight, or a symbol so the accent is not the only cue.
- Don't Do not use character art, anime eyes, mecha silhouettes, city neon, or other literal cosplay references.
- Don't Do not build three equal analytics cards or a generic SaaS dashboard scene.
- Don't Do not add glow, multi-color gradients, chromatic aberration, or rainbow hacker terminal palettes.

- Don't Do not use the accent for decoration, icons in bulk, section backgrounds, or brand color flooding.
- Don't Do not center every section; asymmetry and gutters must carry the manga spread rhythm.
- Don't Do not let micrographics become clutter; every cursor, path, and code must imply function.
### Accessibility
Primary black-on-white and white-on-black combinations exceed WCAG AA. Green accent must be supplemental, focus states include a visible bracket or outline, touch targets remain at least 44px, and reduced-motion disables cursor and scan animations.
### Usage Context
Best for AI memory consoles, forensic archive tools, post-human writing systems, security review interfaces, and cinematic developer products that need mystery without noise.

# Null Koma Terminal Noir shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `null-koma-terminal-noir`
Slug: `null-koma-terminal-noir`
## Intent
Null Koma Terminal Noir is a polished monochrome interface language for systems that feel observed rather than operated: manga panel grammar, command-line evidence, and cyberpunk calm reduced to black ink, paper white, grayscale wash, and a single rare phosphor signal.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Visual character to preserve
- Use square black koma panels with 2px outer rules, 1px interior diagnostic frames, and cinematic gutters that become the primary layout grid.

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/null-koma-terminal-noir/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use black, white, and grayscale as the real palette; introduce phosphor green only for live machine signal or focus.; Make manga panel borders, gutters, and cropped frames the layout structure instead of adding decorative illustrations.; Write real interface language: shell paths, timestamps, error codes, diagnostic labels, and command output with tabular alignment.; Keep corners square except rare 16px containment for a viewport or device shell that needs separation.; Vary scale aggressively: one dominant panel, one dense slab, one quiet void, and at least one vertical or rotated text moment.; Apply -0.02em tracking to body text and tighter display tracking so the austerity feels polished rather than default.; Use halftone and scanline textures below legibility thresholds and away from long body text.; Pair any color-coded status with text, border weight, or a symbol so the accent is not the only cue.
- Do not: Do not use character art, anime eyes, mecha silhouettes, city neon, or other literal cosplay references.; Do not build three equal analytics cards or a generic SaaS dashboard scene.; Do not add glow, multi-color gradients, chromatic aberration, or rainbow hacker terminal palettes.; Do not soften the language with large rounded cards, blue CTAs, or friendly product illustration.; Do not cover small text with scanlines, halftone dots, or low-contrast gray overlays.; Do not use the accent for decoration, icons in bulk, section backgrounds, or brand color flooding.; Do not center every section; asymmetry and gutters must carry the manga spread rhythm.; Do not let micrographics become clutter; every cursor, path, and code must imply function.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
