Portable DESIGN.md source of truth for most agents and apps.
A visible twelve-column register governs every region with asymmetric spans (8/4, 7/5); a dominant content block leads while metadata and controls occupy a narrow adjacent rail.
Hierarchy comes from scale, weight, and alignment: oversized tight-set grotesk figures and headlines, compact uppercase mono labels, and a single vermilion mark for the one decisive element.
Moderate-to-high editorial density with measured grid whitespace; compact interior modules separated by hairline rules rather than roomy floating gaps.
Section heads open at a short vermilion origin segment on a graphite rule (the passer registration mark); data reads as flush-left editorial tables with row dividers; vermilion appears only as register marks, locked states, active tabs, and the one primary action.
Desktop 12-column editorial grid, 24px gutters, frequent 3/4/5/7/8 spans; tablet reduces span count; mobile collapses to a single stacked column preserving rule-based separators.
Structural and measured in grid increments; strong page-edge margins with compact, rhythmically ruled interior modules.
Moderate-to-high with intentional compression while keeping 17px+ body legible.
Renders from ~390px mobile to 2560px+ ultra-wide; minmax(0,1fr) columns and min-width:0 children prevent blowout; only the hero spans 100vw, contained width is capped and centred on ultra-wide.

## Overview
A pressroom register for interface work: a twelve-column grid over an ink-black ground, grotesk headlines set tight, mono meta-labels, and a single vermilion registration mark that decides where every plate aligns. Order comes from the grid and the type; colour comes from one ink.
### Values
- the grid and typography carry hierarchy, not colour
- one vermilion register mark is the only decisive colour
- flat matte ink surfaces, separated by tone and hairline rules
### Anti-Values
- bright white SaaS grounds and pastel washes
- accent edges, nested cards, and rounded app widgets
- a second accent colour solving what type and grid should
### Visual Character
- A deep press-black ground (#0E0E10) with warm paper-white ink type; the night shift in a print shop, never a white page.
- Every section opens at a short vermilion origin segment riding a graphite rule, echoing a printer's passer (registration) cross.
- Oversized Space Grotesk figures and headlines act as the primary graphic device; mono uppercase labels create hierarchy through scale, not colour.
- Asymmetric editorial spans: a dominant block leads while metadata and controls occupy a narrow rail, read as broadsheet tables rather than rounded panels.
## Colors
Use the YAML color tokens as the normative palette. The prose below names the roles agents should preserve when generating UI.

Structural and measured in grid increments; strong page-edge margins with compact, rhythmically ruled interior modules.
### Density
Moderate-to-high with intentional compression while keeping 17px+ body legible.
### Responsive

- **Accent Width**: 4px
- **Style**: solid
- **Character**: Hairline graphite dividers on dark; the only bold rule is a short 4px vermilion origin segment at section heads. Never a full accent edge on a card.
## Components
### Composition
A visible twelve-column register governs every region with asymmetric spans (8/4, 7/5); a dominant content block leads while metadata and controls occupy a narrow adjacent rail.
### Hierarchy
Hierarchy comes from scale, weight, and alignment: oversized tight-set grotesk figures and headlines, compact uppercase mono labels, and a single vermilion mark for the one decisive element.
### Density
Moderate-to-high editorial density with measured grid whitespace; compact interior modules separated by hairline rules rather than roomy floating gaps.
### Signature
Section heads open at a short vermilion origin segment on a graphite rule (the passer registration mark); data reads as flush-left editorial tables with row dividers; vermilion appears only as register marks, locked states, active tabs, and the one primary action.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019ef679-1ebc-74d0-b527-3ddebc37cddb/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Let the grid and typography carry hierarchy; reserve vermilion for register marks and the single decisive action.
- Do Keep surfaces flat and matte, separated by tone and hairline graphite rules.
- Do Open each section with a short vermilion origin segment on a graphite rule.
- Don't Do not put an accent edge on a card, nest cards, or round corners beyond pills/avatars.
- Don't Do not default to a white ground, pastel washes, gradients, or a centred symmetric layout.
- Don't Do not introduce a second accent colour to do what type and grid should.
### Accessibility
Warm paper-white #F2EFE6 on press-black #0E0E10 exceeds 4.5:1; vermilion #E2402A on ink is reserved for marks and large/bold elements; semantic colours are minor and never the sole signal; every form control is explicitly styled; prefers-reduced-motion is honoured.
## Imagery Direction
### Pairs With
hochdruck
### Summary
Two-colour relief linocut: ink-black carved planes on warm paper with one solid vermilion accent. Press, plate, hand, and registration-mark subjects carry the pressroom idea; the two-ink discipline matches the language's one-accent rule.
### Subjects
- pressman's hand on a carved block
- printer's registration cross
- stacked broadsheets
- type and rule forms
- ink rollers
### Usage
Full-bleed hero only; legibility via a directional ink veil weighted to the type side, never a flat scrim. Bodies of the product use flat tokens, not illustration.

# Passer shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019ef679-1ebc-74d0-b527-3ddebc37cddb`
Slug: `passer`
## Intent
A pressroom register for interface work: a twelve-column grid over an ink-black ground, grotesk headlines set tight, mono meta-labels, and a single vermilion registration mark that decides where every plate aligns. Order comes from the grid and the type; colour comes from one ink.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

}
## Visual character to preserve
- A deep press-black ground (#0E0E10) with warm paper-white ink type; the night shift in a print shop, never a white page.
- Every section opens at a short vermilion origin segment riding a graphite rule, echoing a printer's passer (registration) cross.
- Oversized Space Grotesk figures and headlines act as the primary graphic device; mono uppercase labels create hierarchy through scale, not colour.
- Asymmetric editorial spans: a dominant block leads while metadata and controls occupy a narrow rail, read as broadsheet tables rather than rounded panels.
## ShadSync visual profile

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/passer/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Let the grid and typography carry hierarchy; reserve vermilion for register marks and the single decisive action.; Keep surfaces flat and matte, separated by tone and hairline graphite rules.; Open each section with a short vermilion origin segment on a graphite rule.
- Do not: Do not put an accent edge on a card, nest cards, or round corners beyond pills/avatars.; Do not default to a white ground, pastel washes, gradients, or a centred symmetric layout.; Do not introduce a second accent colour to do what type and grid should.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
