A portable design language for agents: download the markdown first, then inspect the preview, tokens, and rules as needed.
Portable DESIGN.md source of truth for most agents and apps.
Build scenes as poster-like boards of bordered modules with one dominant headline zone, one dense operational workspace, and supporting notes or stats arranged as offset stacks.
Hierarchy comes from scale shock first, then border weight, then the acid slab and monospace labels; body text stays restrained so headlines and controls do the shouting.
Medium-high density with many visible controls and summaries, each group boxed clearly so the screen reads energetic, not chaotic.
Movable printed blocks (controls carry a hard offset shadow that collapses on press); a punched acid slab behind part of a phrase, never a wash; monospace corner tags in bordered capsules; a rotated backing plate creating a cut-paper collision in every region.
A bold editorial board: wide main workspace columns with narrower side stacks, strong gutters, and internal card grids that collapse from 3 to 2 to 1. The top nav sits openly across a bordered header, never trapped in a floating pill.
Deliberate, not luxurious: tight internal padding, roomy gaps between modules, and generous breathing room above giant headlines.
medium-high
Single full-bleed hero spans 100vw; contained content caps and centres on ultra-wide; mobile stacks to one column, hides non-essential nav and table columns, and never overflows horizontally.
squeegee
Screen-printed risograph imagery: heavy black contour outlines, three-to-four flat ink separations, visible halftone-dot midtones, a hard offset registration shadow, and one flat acid slab punched behind a single bold subject that bleeds off all four edges.
One full-bleed hero image per landing in the squeegee technique, kept mostly monochrome with a single acid-lime slab; never a literal product screenshot.
# Klaxon ## Philosophy A loud monochrome interface language that turns a screen into a screen-printed workstation: warm paper-white fields, uncompromising black outlines, oversized grotesk headlines, and one acid-lime slab punched in where the product needs to raise its voice. Built for tools that refuse to whisper. ### Values - Instant legibility through harsh black-on-paper contrast and scale-shock hierarchy. - Playful confrontation: interfaces should feel bold, tactile, and slightly irreverent, never neutral. - Structural honesty where borders, hard offset shadows, and monospace tags visibly explain containment and interaction. ### Anti-Values - Soft gradients, glass, blur, and invisible chrome. - Grey-on-grey SaaS slickness that hides structure behind polish. - Accent colour allowed to flood the canvas instead of puncturing it. ### Visual Character - Every container is drawn with a 3-5px black contour, hard rectangular corners, and an offset drop shadow with no blur, so the layout reads as stacked cut-paper blocks rather than photoreal cards. - Headlines are ultra-bold uppercase grotesk, tightly packed and oversized; labels and metadata use compact monospace tags in bordered capsules. - Colour appears only as a blunt acid-lime slab punched behind part of a phrase or a button, never a full-width wash, so the monochrome foundation stays dominant and the colour reads as a loud interruption. - At least one panel per region sits on a slightly rotated backing plate, creating a hard-edged cut-paper collision without skeuomorphic texture. ## Tokens ### Colors | Name | Value | |------|-------| | bg | `#FCFAF5` | | surface | `#FFFFFF` | | text | `#141210` | | muted | `#5F5C54` | | border | `#141210` | | accent | `#D8FF36` | | on_accent | `#141210` | | primary | `#141210` | | secondary | `#FFFFFF` | | success | `#1F9D55` | | warning | `#FF8A00` | | error | `#FF5A36` | | info | `#141210` | ### Typography - **Base Size**: 17px - **Body Font**: Space Grotesk - **Heading Font**: Archivo Black - **Mono Font**: IBM Plex Mono - **Heading Weight**: 400 - **Heading Transform**: uppercase - **Letter Spacing**: -0.02em - **Line Height**: 1.55 - **Scale Ratio**: 1.25 - **Google Fonts Url**: https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Archivo+Black&family=IBM+Plex+Mono:wght@400;500;600&family=Space+Grotesk:wght@400;500;600;700&display=swap ### Radii - **None**: 0 - **Sm**: 0 - **Md**: 0 - **Lg**: 0 - **Full**: 9999px ### Shadows - **Sm**: 4px 4px 0 #141210 - **Md**: 8px 8px 0 #141210 - **Lg**: 14px 14px 0 #141210 ### Spacing - **Base**: 8px - **Scale**: [4,8,12,16,24,32,48,64] ### Surfaces - **Treatment**: paper - **Card Style**: Flat paper-white panels with severe black outlines and hard offset shadows; one acid slab punched behind content where the screen needs to raise its voice. - **Bg Pattern**: faint ink grid behind warm paper ### Borders - **Default Width**: 3px - **Accent Width**: 5px - **Style**: solid - **Character**: Borders are the main graphic voice, not separators: heavy, uncompromising, always visible, in pure ink. ### Motion - **Duration**: 160ms - **Easing**: cubic-bezier(0.2,0.9,0.2,1) - **Philosophy**: snappy; controls translate into their shadow on press ## Rules ### Composition Build scenes as poster-like boards of bordered modules with one dominant headline zone, one dense operational workspace, and supporting notes or stats arranged as offset stacks. ### Hierarchy Hierarchy comes from scale shock first, then border weight, then the acid slab and monospace labels; body text stays restrained so headlines and controls do the shouting. ### Density Medium-high density with many visible controls and summaries, each group boxed clearly so the screen reads energetic, not chaotic. ### Signature Movable printed blocks (controls carry a hard offset shadow that collapses on press); a punched acid slab behind part of a phrase, never a wash; monospace corner tags in bordered capsules; a rotated backing plate creating a cut-paper collision in every region. ## Layout ### Grid A bold editorial board: wide main workspace columns with narrower side stacks, strong gutters, and internal card grids that collapse from 3 to 2 to 1. ## Overview
A loud monochrome interface language that turns a screen into a screen-printed workstation: warm paper-white fields, uncompromising black outlines, oversized grotesk headlines, and one acid-lime slab punched in where the product needs to raise its voice. Built for tools that refuse to whisper.
### Values
- Instant legibility through harsh black-on-paper contrast and scale-shock hierarchy.
- Playful confrontation: interfaces should feel bold, tactile, and slightly irreverent, never neutral.
- Structural honesty where borders, hard offset shadows, and monospace tags visibly explain containment and interaction.
### Anti-Values
- Soft gradients, glass, blur, and invisible chrome.
- Grey-on-grey SaaS slickness that hides structure behind polish.
- Accent colour allowed to flood the canvas instead of puncturing it.
### Visual Character
- Every container is drawn with a 3-5px black contour, hard rectangular corners, and an offset drop shadow with no blur, so the layout reads as stacked cut-paper blocks rather than photoreal cards.
## Colors
Use the YAML color tokens as the normative palette. The prose below names the roles agents should preserve when generating UI.

## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019ef93f-7b30-7381-acab-cf32e59a58cb/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Let black outlines and hard offset shadows frame every structural element.
- Do Keep the canvas monochrome, then punch one acid slab where it matters most.
- Do Mix oversized display type with compact monospace labels to emphasize contrast.
- Do Let modules overlap through offsets and slightly rotated backing plates.
- Don't Do not round corners or soften borders into generic SaaS cards.
- Don't Do not use gradients, glass, blur, or grey-on-grey surfaces.
- Don't Do not let the acid flood the canvas; it punctures, then leaves.
- Don't Do not hide form controls in browser defaults; style every one.
### Accessibility
Black ink on warm paper holds well above AA; the acid slab pairs with ink text only (never light text on acid); semantic state colours pair white or ink text per contrast; focus drops a visible acid offset on every control; motion respects prefers-reduced-motion and the settled state renders with no JavaScript.
## Imagery Direction
### Pairs With
squeegee
### Summary
Screen-printed risograph imagery: heavy black contour outlines, three-to-four flat ink separations, visible halftone-dot midtones, a hard offset registration shadow, and one flat acid slab punched behind a single bold subject that bleeds off all four edges.
### Subjects
- a klaxon horn or loudspeaker
- press and pressroom apparatus
- bold single objects rendered as cut-paper blocks
- blunt graphic symbols of broadcast and noise
### Usage
One full-bleed hero image per landing in the squeegee technique, kept mostly monochrome with a single acid-lime slab; never a literal product screenshot.

# Klaxon shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019ef93f-7b30-7381-acab-cf32e59a58cb`
Slug: `klaxon`
## Intent
A loud monochrome interface language that turns a screen into a screen-printed workstation: warm paper-white fields, uncompromising black outlines, oversized grotesk headlines, and one acid-lime slab punched in where the product needs to raise its voice. Built for tools that refuse to whisper.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

}
## Visual character to preserve
- Every container is drawn with a 3-5px black contour, hard rectangular corners, and an offset drop shadow with no blur, so the layout reads as stacked cut-paper blocks rather than photoreal cards.

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/klaxon/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Let black outlines and hard offset shadows frame every structural element.; Keep the canvas monochrome, then punch one acid slab where it matters most.; Mix oversized display type with compact monospace labels to emphasize contrast.; Let modules overlap through offsets and slightly rotated backing plates.
- Do not: Do not round corners or soften borders into generic SaaS cards.; Do not use gradients, glass, blur, or grey-on-grey surfaces.; Do not let the acid flood the canvas; it punctures, then leaves.; Do not hide form controls in browser defaults; style every one.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
