A portable design language for agents: download the markdown first, then inspect the preview, tokens, and rules as needed.
Portable DESIGN.md source of truth for most agents and apps.
Compose each screen as a balance system, not a poster: a single diagonal beam from which weights hang at different moment-arms, and panels that are windows cut from the midnight void rather than tiles laid on a field. Disciplined asymmetry comes from balance, not from widening a column.
Hierarchy comes from drop-depth on the beam, from condensed mixed-case display scale, and from luminous cut-out apertures that pull the eye; never from shadow or border weight.
Operational but segmented: each module is its own cut window with a negative-space buffer of dark void around it.
Subtractive cut-out windows of luminous primary colour cropped by panel edges; a single diagonal balance beam with cantilevered weights at staggered drops; mixed-case condensed display on stacked baselines; vertical mono section tags; no slab shadows and no card borders.
An open masthead across the header; content on a 12-column feel capped at 1280px. The beam/hanger pattern replaces the stat-card grid; feature splits pair a cut-window visual with a listed text column.
Deliberate dark negative space around each cut window; generous padding inside panels; always pad above titles; section tags run vertically in the left margin.
Operational, segmented, each module ruled by space and aperture rather than by box edges.
Renders from ~390px mobile to 2560px+ ultra-wide; single column on mobile with non-essential nav hidden and tables scrollable; the full-bleed hero spans 100vw; contained content caps at 1280px and centres on ultra-wide; minmax(0,1fr) columns and min-width:0 children so grids never overflow.
werkblock
Geometric-reduction print in the Werkblock technique, recast onto a deep cobalt-midnight ground: subjects rebuilt entirely from flat primary shapes snapped to a construction grid, glowing as luminous vermilion / cobalt / amber planes as if lit from behind, held by hard drafting rules. Completely flat colour, no shading; disciplined asymmetry with calm dark negative space reserved for a legible overlay.
Full-bleed landing hero with dense geometric construction clustered on one side and calm midnight negative space on the other for a legible overlay plate. Drive with background-image: var(--hero-image).

# Hohlraum
## Overview
Bauhaus workshop logic read through an opposite lens: a subtractive system on a deep cobalt-midnight void where colour is light let through windows cut in the dark, and every element hangs in balance off a single diagonal beam like a Calder mobile. The dark is the figure, not the background; nothing is mounted and nothing floats. Primary geometry, disciplined asymmetry, and type-as-architecture remain, but expressed as apertures and counterweights rather than rules drawn on paper. Named after the Hohlraum Observatorium at Kessler Ridge.
### Values
- Subtraction over addition: colour is cut from the dark, not painted on
- Balance over stacking: layout cantilevers off one axis
- Geometric clarity before ornament
- Type plotted in mixed-case baselines, read across
### Anti-Values
- Slab-shadow mounting and drawn card edges
- Uppercase-locked poster headlines
- Ivory/paper washes and atmospheric gradients
- Invisible containers and single accent edges
### Visual Character
- A deep cobalt-midnight void is the ground and the figure; a faint 48px construction grid reads as a plotting chart, never paper.
- Colour appears only as luminous primary shapes cropped by a panel edge, glowing like light through a cut window; there are no slab shadows and no drawn card borders.
- Stat rows and KPI weights hang from thin wires at different moment-arms off one diagonal beam, so heavier numbers visibly drop lower.
- Display type is heavy condensed Anton set in mixed case on stacked baselines; labels are wide-tracked JetBrains Mono, with section tags set vertically along the left margin.
- Layouts are asymmetric because they are balanced: a master beam with cantilevered weights replaces the stat-card grid, and panels are windows cut from the void rather than tiles laid on it.

### Grid
An open masthead across the header; content on a 12-column feel capped at 1280px. The beam/hanger pattern replaces the stat-card grid; feature splits pair a cut-window visual with a listed text column.
### Whitespace
Deliberate dark negative space around each cut window; generous padding inside panels; always pad above titles; section tags run vertically in the left margin.
### Density
Operational, segmented, each module ruled by space and aperture rather than by box edges.
### Responsive
Renders from ~390px mobile to 2560px+ ultra-wide; single column on mobile with non-essential nav hidden and tables scrollable; the full-bleed hero spans 100vw; contained content caps at 1280px and centres on ultra-wide; minmax(0,1fr) columns and min-width:0 children so grids never overflow.

### Shadows
- **None**: none
## Shapes
### Rounded
- **None**: `0px`
- **Md**: `0px`
- **Lg**: `0px`
- **Full**: `9999px`
### Surfaces
- **Treatment**: cut-window
- **Card Style**: Windows cut from the midnight void: a chamber-surface fill with no border and no shadow, marked by one luminous primary shape cropped by the panel edge that reads as light coming through an aperture.
- **Bg Pattern**: 48px faint construction/plotting grid
### Borders
- **Default Width**: 1px
- **Accent Width**: 2px
- **Style**: solid
- **Character**: Hairline structural rules in cobalt-charcoal (#2C3A72) used only to separate rows and gate sections; depth comes from cut-out apertures, never from a mounted edge or a single accent border.
## Components
### Composition
Compose each screen as a balance system, not a poster: a single diagonal beam from which weights hang at different moment-arms, and panels that are windows cut from the midnight void rather than tiles laid on a field. Disciplined asymmetry comes from balance, not from widening a column.
### Hierarchy
Hierarchy comes from drop-depth on the beam, from condensed mixed-case display scale, and from luminous cut-out apertures that pull the eye; never from shadow or border weight.
### Density
Operational but segmented: each module is its own cut window with a negative-space buffer of dark void around it.
### Signature
Subtractive cut-out windows of luminous primary colour cropped by panel edges; a single diagonal balance beam with cantilevered weights at staggered drops; mixed-case condensed display on stacked baselines; vertical mono section tags; no slab shadows and no card borders.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019ef955-36d8-7a40-a11a-febdb9872c0c/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Let the midnight void be the figure; cut colour in as light through apertures.
- Do Hang elements in balance off one diagonal beam and vary the drops.
- Do Set display type in mixed-case stacked baselines; keep mono labels tracked and uppercase.
- Do Make one button clearly primary in vermilion; keep the rest quieter.
- Don't Do not mount blocks on hard offset slab shadows or draw card borders.
- Don't Do not set headlines as uppercase locked blocks.
- Don't Do not wash the ground to ivory or add gradients for atmosphere.
- Don't Do not give a card a single accent edge, or nest cards.
### Accessibility
Body text 17px+; table rows 14.5px+. Starlight text on the midnight void and on the chamber surface clears AA; dark ink reads on every luminous plane. Focus is a visible 2px cobalt inset ring on every form control. Icons are SVG primitives, never symbol glyphs. Respects prefers-reduced-motion.

# Hohlraum shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019ef955-36d8-7a40-a11a-febdb9872c0c`
Slug: `hohlraum`
## Intent
Bauhaus workshop logic read through an opposite lens: a subtractive system on a deep cobalt-midnight void where colour is light let through windows cut in the dark, and every element hangs in balance off a single diagonal beam like a Calder mobile. The dark is the figure, not the background; nothing is mounted and nothing floats. Primary geometry, disciplined asymmetry, and type-as-architecture remain, but expressed as apertures and counterweights rather than rules drawn on paper. Named after the Hohlraum Observatorium at Kessler Ridge.

## Visual character to preserve

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/hohlraum/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Let the midnight void be the figure; cut colour in as light through apertures.; Hang elements in balance off one diagonal beam and vary the drops.; Set display type in mixed-case stacked baselines; keep mono labels tracked and uppercase.; Make one button clearly primary in vermilion; keep the rest quieter.
- Do not: Do not mount blocks on hard offset slab shadows or draw card borders.; Do not set headlines as uppercase locked blocks.; Do not wash the ground to ivory or add gradients for atmosphere.; Do not give a card a single accent edge, or nest cards.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
