summary
A compact command environment for a transient sleeper-operator renting one night of privacy inside a rainy capsule hotel. The language treats software as a narrow architectural compartment: manga gutters become pod seams, terminal cells become bedding labels, and every interaction feels like checking in, waiting out weather, then vanishing before morning.
values
Spatial compression over decorative abundance: identity comes from stacked pod proportions, narrow corridors, and intentionally claustrophobic negative space.Terminal authenticity without hacker theater: command prompts, character-cell rules, raster linework, and VT-style status strips replace green code rain or generic dashboards.Private urban solitude: the product voice is quiet, rented, and inward-facing, with low-glow panes that feel meant for one operator behind a curtain.Manga structure as interface grammar: off-white captions, black ink gutters, cropped panels, speed-line rain, and restrained screentone form the composition.Y2K hardware melancholy: vending LEDs, checkout timers, soft CRT bloom, and translucent shell overlays suggest late-1990s speculative devices without neon skyline spectacle.Embodied operation: the user is not browsing a SaaS app; they are lying in a numbered module while the room, weather, and network status negotiate sleep.
anti-values
×No green matrix rain, neon cyberpunk skyline, loud glitch chaos, or generic hacker-dashboard theatrics.×No character fan art, mascot anime figures, or illustrative hero scenes that replace the interface itself.×No SaaS card grids, equal three-column feature rows, cheerful productivity palette, or rounded startup widgets.×No novelty pixel fonts or faux hacker stencil typography; raster texture must come from spacing, cells, and masks.

composition
Build screens as a rented interior, not a dashboard: one dominant vertical stack of sleep pods, one narrow service corridor, one private terminal pane, and one vending-glow interruption. Use asymmetric panel weights, with the pod column carrying most mass and smaller status strips tucked into gutters. Maintain a strong top checkout strip and a bottom command prompt so the operator feels physically enclosed.
density
Dense by intention: information clusters sit at 4-12px inside pods, while major architectural gaps expand to 64-96px. The interface should feel compact enough to sleep in, with one breathing void that reads as a dark corridor.
hierarchy
First voice is numbered pod wayfinding in condensed uppercase; second voice is command-line mono prompts and weather telemetry; third voice is off-white manga captions. Hierarchy comes from panel placement, gutter thickness, and glow scarcity more than size. Display type may be large but compressed, tracked at -0.04em, and cropped by pod seams.
signature patterns
Capsule bay stack: CSS grid rows repeat minmax bands, each bay uses ::before pod-number tabs and ::after curtain slits to make UI containers read as sleeping modules.Manga terminal gutters: heavy black vertical and horizontal separators double as scroll corridors, with small off-white caption labels pinned across them like printed panel notes.Vending glow aperture: exactly one pale rectangular light source uses box-shadow and mix-blend grain, anchoring the palette while preventing neon cyberpunk excess.Rain/CRT mask: layered linear-gradients create silver-blue rain streaks and horizontal scanlines over the whole viewport at low opacity, visible without becoming matrix rain.Checkout timer ritual: persistent shell prompt and time-left strip frame actions as temporary occupancy, turning navigation into check-in, sleep-cycle, and checkout sequence.
layout
breakpoints
1440px desktop full compartment; 900px tablet collapses rail beneath terminal while preserving pod stack; 620px mobile becomes a single vertical capsule sequence with sticky prompt footer.
density
Compact, tall, and compartmental. Pod stacks and private terminal panes allow many elements without SaaS card repetition; one dark corridor must remain underfilled to preserve solitude.
grid
Desktop uses a 12-column shell with a 5-column pod stack, 1-column gutter corridor, 4-column terminal pane, and 2-column vending/status rail; gutters range from 8px interior seams to 64px architectural pauses.
responsive
At tablet widths, pods remain stacked but the terminal pane moves beside or below them; at mobile, manga gutters become horizontal dividers and labels stay readable at 15-16px.
whitespace
Whitespace is claustrophobic negative space: tiny 4-12px cell gaps inside modules, 32px between sequences, and one 96px dark corridor or margin to create the 8:1 rhythm.
guidance
- Document palette tokens as midnight navy, near-black ink, off-white manga paper, vending milk glow, muted cola red, sodium peach, desaturated cyan, and amber statuses.
- Use monospace for command prompts, timers, pod numbers, and telemetry; use restrained condensed sans for captions and labels.
- Design split panes as pod compartments with gutter seams, clipped label tabs, curtain dividers, and small status strips.
- Keep the embodiment premise explicit: the user is a transient sleeper/operator inside a compact rented module.
- Use rain telemetry, checkout timers, private messages, vending selection LEDs, and CRT bloom masks as interface motifs.
- Write DESIGN.md guidance with tokens, type scale, pod grid rules, manga gutter rules, prompt motifs, anti-cliches, lint checks, review rubric, and publish readiness.
- Run lint/review against color count, font uniqueness, contrast, visible signature patterns, responsive pod sequencing, and absence of generic dashboard structure.
- Do not use the word Katagami in the language name or user-facing embodiment labels.
- Do not use green matrix rain, neon skyline backgrounds, overbright vaporwave, or chaotic glitch overlays.
- Do not place three equal SaaS cards in a row or label sections as generic Controls, Data, Feedback.
- Do not introduce character fan art, anime portraits, mascots, or scenes that compete with the interface architecture.
- Do not use faux hacker stencil, novelty pixel fonts at readable sizes, or default browser typography.
- Do not add decorative colors beyond the restrained vending/status set; if a color is not a signal, remove it.
- Do not flatten manga influence into comic-book gimmicks; use gutters, captions, cropping, and screentone restraint.

# Rain Capsule Command Shell
## Philosophy
A compact command environment for a transient sleeper-operator renting one night of privacy inside a rainy capsule hotel. The language treats software as a narrow architectural compartment: manga gutters become pod seams, terminal cells become bedding labels, and every interaction feels like checking in, waiting out weather, then vanishing before morning.
### Values
- Spatial compression over decorative abundance: identity comes from stacked pod proportions, narrow corridors, and intentionally claustrophobic negative space.
- Terminal authenticity without hacker theater: command prompts, character-cell rules, raster linework, and VT-style status strips replace green code rain or generic dashboards.
- Private urban solitude: the product voice is quiet, rented, and inward-facing, with low-glow panes that feel meant for one operator behind a curtain.
- Manga structure as interface grammar: off-white captions, black ink gutters, cropped panels, speed-line rain, and restrained screentone form the composition.
- Y2K hardware melancholy: vending LEDs, checkout timers, soft CRT bloom, and translucent shell overlays suggest late-1990s speculative devices without neon skyline spectacle.
- Embodied operation: the user is not browsing a SaaS app; they are lying in a numbered module while the room, weather, and network status negotiate sleep.
### Anti-Values
- No green matrix rain, neon cyberpunk skyline, loud glitch chaos, or generic hacker-dashboard theatrics.
- No character fan art, mascot anime figures, or illustrative hero scenes that replace the interface itself.
- No SaaS card grids, equal three-column feature rows, cheerful productivity palette, or rounded startup widgets.
- No novelty pixel fonts or faux hacker stencil typography; raster texture must come from spacing, cells, and masks.
### Visual Character
- Use a vertical stacked-pod grid: repeated horizontal capsule bays with 1px ink seams, inset terminal panes, and clipped corners formed by CSS polygon masks.
- Separate content with manga gutters rather than cards: thick near-black corridor bands, off-white caption slips, and asymmetric panel crops that interrupt the grid.
- Apply low-contrast CRT bloom through pseudo-element scanlines, radial blue-gray haze, and subtle text-shadow on prompts instead of green phosphor.
- Reserve color for vending-machine signals: one milk-white glow rectangle, muted cola red selection LEDs, sodium peach timers, and tiny amber status dots against midnight navy.
- Make the operator embodied with pod numbers, curtain dividers, checkout countdowns, rain telemetry, and private message panes placed as room fixtures, not dashboard modules.

### Accessibility
Maintain AA contrast for body text on navy surfaces, never rely on status color alone, provide text labels for LED states, keep scanline/rain overlays below readability thresholds, and preserve visible focus rings in off-white or sodium peach.
### Usage Context
Best for fictional private network shells, sleep-cycle operators, anonymous message terminals, room-control interfaces, late-night device OS concepts, and speculative hardware demos where solitude and temporary occupancy matter.

# Rain Capsule Command Shell
## Overview
A compact command environment for a transient sleeper-operator renting one night of privacy inside a rainy capsule hotel. The language treats software as a narrow architectural compartment: manga gutters become pod seams, terminal cells become bedding labels, and every interaction feels like checking in, waiting out weather, then vanishing before morning.
### Values
- Spatial compression over decorative abundance: identity comes from stacked pod proportions, narrow corridors, and intentionally claustrophobic negative space.
- Terminal authenticity without hacker theater: command prompts, character-cell rules, raster linework, and VT-style status strips replace green code rain or generic dashboards.
- Private urban solitude: the product voice is quiet, rented, and inward-facing, with low-glow panes that feel meant for one operator behind a curtain.
- Manga structure as interface grammar: off-white captions, black ink gutters, cropped panels, speed-line rain, and restrained screentone form the composition.
- Y2K hardware melancholy: vending LEDs, checkout timers, soft CRT bloom, and translucent shell overlays suggest late-1990s speculative devices without neon skyline spectacle.
- Embodied operation: the user is not browsing a SaaS app; they are lying in a numbered module while the room, weather, and network status negotiate sleep.
### Anti-Values
- No green matrix rain, neon cyberpunk skyline, loud glitch chaos, or generic hacker-dashboard theatrics.
- No character fan art, mascot anime figures, or illustrative hero scenes that replace the interface itself.
- No SaaS card grids, equal three-column feature rows, cheerful productivity palette, or rounded startup widgets.
- No novelty pixel fonts or faux hacker stencil typography; raster texture must come from spacing, cells, and masks.
### Visual Character
- Use a vertical stacked-pod grid: repeated horizontal capsule bays with 1px ink seams, inset terminal panes, and clipped corners formed by CSS polygon masks.
- Separate content with manga gutters rather than cards: thick near-black corridor bands, off-white caption slips, and asymmetric panel crops that interrupt the grid.
- Apply low-contrast CRT bloom through pseudo-element scanlines, radial blue-gray haze, and subtle text-shadow on prompts instead of green phosphor.
- Reserve color for vending-machine signals: one milk-white glow rectangle, muted cola red selection LEDs, sodium peach timers, and tiny amber status dots against midnight navy.
- Make the operator embodied with pod numbers, curtain dividers, checkout countdowns, rain telemetry, and private message panes placed as room fixtures, not dashboard modules.

## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/rain-capsule-command-shell/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Document palette tokens as midnight navy, near-black ink, off-white manga paper, vending milk glow, muted cola red, sodium peach, desaturated cyan, and amber statuses.
- Do Use monospace for command prompts, timers, pod numbers, and telemetry; use restrained condensed sans for captions and labels.
- Do Design split panes as pod compartments with gutter seams, clipped label tabs, curtain dividers, and small status strips.
- Do Keep the embodiment premise explicit: the user is a transient sleeper/operator inside a compact rented module.
- Do Use rain telemetry, checkout timers, private messages, vending selection LEDs, and CRT bloom masks as interface motifs.
- Do Write DESIGN.md guidance with tokens, type scale, pod grid rules, manga gutter rules, prompt motifs, anti-cliches, lint checks, review rubric, and publish readiness.
- Do Run lint/review against color count, font uniqueness, contrast, visible signature patterns, responsive pod sequencing, and absence of generic dashboard structure.
- Don't Do not use the word Katagami in the language name or user-facing embodiment labels.
- Don't Do not use green matrix rain, neon skyline backgrounds, overbright vaporwave, or chaotic glitch overlays.
- Don't Do not place three equal SaaS cards in a row or label sections as generic Controls, Data, Feedback.
- Don't Do not introduce character fan art, anime portraits, mascots, or scenes that compete with the interface architecture.
- Don't Do not use faux hacker stencil, novelty pixel fonts at readable sizes, or default browser typography.
- Don't Do not add decorative colors beyond the restrained vending/status set; if a color is not a signal, remove it.
- Don't Do not flatten manga influence into comic-book gimmicks; use gutters, captions, cropping, and screentone restraint.
### Accessibility
Maintain AA contrast for body text on navy surfaces, never rely on status color alone, provide text labels for LED states, keep scanline/rain overlays below readability thresholds, and preserve visible focus rings in off-white or sodium peach.
### Usage Context
Best for fictional private network shells, sleep-cycle operators, anonymous message terminals, room-control interfaces, late-night device OS concepts, and speculative hardware demos where solitude and temporary occupancy matter.

# Rain Capsule Command Shell shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `rain-capsule-command-shell`
Slug: `rain-capsule-command-shell`
## Intent
A compact command environment for a transient sleeper-operator renting one night of privacy inside a rainy capsule hotel. The language treats software as a narrow architectural compartment: manga gutters become pod seams, terminal cells become bedding labels, and every interaction feels like checking in, waiting out weather, then vanishing before morning.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Visual character to preserve
- Use a vertical stacked-pod grid: repeated horizontal capsule bays with 1px ink seams, inset terminal panes, and clipped corners formed by CSS polygon masks.
- Separate content with manga gutters rather than cards: thick near-black corridor bands, off-white caption slips, and asymmetric panel crops that interrupt the grid.
- Apply low-contrast CRT bloom through pseudo-element scanlines, radial blue-gray haze, and subtle text-shadow on prompts instead of green phosphor.
- Reserve color for vending-machine signals: one milk-white glow rectangle, muted cola red selection LEDs, sodium peach timers, and tiny amber status dots against midnight navy.
- Make the operator embodied with pod numbers, curtain dividers, checkout countdowns, rain telemetry, and private message panes placed as room fixtures, not dashboard modules.

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/rain-capsule-command-shell/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Document palette tokens as midnight navy, near-black ink, off-white manga paper, vending milk glow, muted cola red, sodium peach, desaturated cyan, and amber statuses.; Use monospace for command prompts, timers, pod numbers, and telemetry; use restrained condensed sans for captions and labels.; Design split panes as pod compartments with gutter seams, clipped label tabs, curtain dividers, and small status strips.; Keep the embodiment premise explicit: the user is a transient sleeper/operator inside a compact rented module.; Use rain telemetry, checkout timers, private messages, vending selection LEDs, and CRT bloom masks as interface motifs.; Write DESIGN.md guidance with tokens, type scale, pod grid rules, manga gutter rules, prompt motifs, anti-cliches, lint checks, review rubric, and publish readiness.; Run lint/review against color count, font uniqueness, contrast, visible signature patterns, responsive pod sequencing, and absence of generic dashboard structure.
- Do not: Do not use the word Katagami in the language name or user-facing embodiment labels.; Do not use green matrix rain, neon skyline backgrounds, overbright vaporwave, or chaotic glitch overlays.; Do not place three equal SaaS cards in a row or label sections as generic Controls, Data, Feedback.; Do not introduce character fan art, anime portraits, mascots, or scenes that compete with the interface architecture.; Do not use faux hacker stencil, novelty pixel fonts at readable sizes, or default browser typography.; Do not add decorative colors beyond the restrained vending/status set; if a color is not a signal, remove it.; Do not flatten manga influence into comic-book gimmicks; use gutters, captions, cropping, and screentone restraint.
