composition
Compose screens like an open picture-book spread: one dominant hero scene, supporting cut-paper islands around it, and decorative negative-space motifs that guide the eye diagonally across the page.
hierarchy
Use oversized rounded headings on colored paper pieces first, tape labels second, and concise body copy on calm cream surfaces so the interface stays readable beneath the playful decoration.
density

Medium-low density with generous breathing room, large touch targets, and only short clusters of related controls per paper island.

signature patterns
Primary panels sit on top of a second offset paper layer using pseudo-elements so each card shows a visible stacked-collage edge rather than a single flat rectangle.Labels, pills, and section captions use rotated tape-strip shapes with darker border strokes and tiny uppercase mono text to mimic handmade page annotations.Decorative background motifs are built from simple layered CSS circles, leaves, and torn-edge blobs placed behind content to create picture-book scene depth without stealing focus.Buttons, toggles, and inputs use chunky rounded outlines with slight downward movement on press, so interaction feels like pushing a pasted paper piece onto the page.
layout
grid
A 12-column desktop collage grid with one wide content spread and smaller supporting islands; collapses to two columns on tablet and one stacked narrative column on mobile.
breakpoints

Desktop default, tablet at 1100px, mobile at 780px and 520px for tighter stacking and full-width controls.

whitespace
Use generous outer margins and clear vertical spacing so decorative motifs can breathe around content; keep internal padding plush like printed board-book gutters.
guidance
do
  • Build every major section as a scene-like paper island with visible layering.
  • Keep illustrations abstract and shape-based so UI remains crisp and legible.
  • Use warm off-white backgrounds to preserve the feel of a printed page.
  • Prefer short labels, large buttons, and obvious state changes.
avoid
  • Do not use cold grayscale dashboards or generic software cards.
  • Do not hide interaction states inside subtle color-only changes.
  • Do not overpack tables or metrics until the collage motifs become meaningless decoration.
  • Do not use glassmorphism, neon glows, or metallic gradients.

# Tissue-Paper Storybook

## Philosophy

A warm interface language that translates children's tissue-paper collage picture books into a navigable product surface: layered dyed-paper shapes, rounded ink-like outlines, taped labels, and scene-based composition that feels hand assembled rather than mechanically boxed.

### Values

- Tactile warmth over sterile polish
- Narrative scenes instead of abstract component catalogs
- Large readable shapes that feel handmade and welcoming
- Playful hierarchy that still supports clear task completion

### Anti-Values

- Clinical flat SaaS panels with invisible structure
- Tiny controls or dense data-first layouts that erase storybook charm
- Photoreal gloss, chrome, or futuristic lighting effects

### Visual Character

- Cards and panels are built from overlapping paper-cut silhouettes with irregular border radii, layered drop shadows, and soft internal grain so every surface feels cut, pasted, and pressed by hand rather than machine-perfect.
- Section labels sit inside small masking-tape or stitched paper tags that tilt by a few degrees, using rounded display typography and dark ink outlines to create a classroom storybook caption rhythm.
- Color appears as broad dyed-paper fields in tomato red, marigold, leaf green, sky blue, and cream, with warm off-white page backgrounds and visible contrast between foreground cutouts and the backing sheet.
- Decorative leaves, suns, clouds, and pebble dots float behind content as oversized collage motifs, creating scene depth and page-like composition instead of a strict enterprise grid.

## shadcn/ui Usage

When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.

DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019db8e6-d790-7563-803d-856e75ac0d6a/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.

The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.

Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.

# Tissue-Paper Storybook shadcn/ui Components

Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019db8e6-d790-7563-803d-856e75ac0d6a`
Slug: `tissue-paper-storybook`

## Intent

A warm interface language that translates children's tissue-paper collage picture books into a navigable product surface: layered dyed-paper shapes, rounded ink-like outlines, taped labels, and scene-based composition that feels hand assembled rather than mechanically boxed.

## Required primitives

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

}

Typography:

{
  "heading_font": "Baloo 2",
  "body_font": "Nunito",
  "mono_font": "IBM Plex Mono",
  "base_size": "16px",
  "scale_ratio": 1.22,

}

## Visual character to preserve

## ShadSync visual profile

{
  "family": "paper-collage",
  "material": "paper",
  "contour": "blob",
  "border": "dashed",
  "underlay": true,
  "grain": true,
  "stickerBadges": false,

  "density": "balanced",
  "accents": [
    "primary",
    "accent",
    "secondary",
    "muted"
  ]
}

## Signature component recipes

### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.

### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.

### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.

### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.

### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.

## Preview shots

- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.

## Implementation contract

- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/tissue-paper-storybook/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Build every major section as a scene-like paper island with visible layering.; Keep illustrations abstract and shape-based so UI remains crisp and legible.; Use warm off-white backgrounds to preserve the feel of a printed page.; Prefer short labels, large buttons, and obvious state changes.
- Do not: Do not use cold grayscale dashboards or generic software cards.; Do not hide interaction states inside subtle color-only changes.; Do not overpack tables or metrics until the collage motifs become meaningless decoration.; Do not use glassmorphism, neon glows, or metallic gradients.

## Copy-paste component example

This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
