Build each screen as a large-format literary spread: one dominant ink plate, one narrow editorial column, and a preserved open void that creates asymmetric balance at every viewport.
Use scale jumps over colour: oversized serif headlines, tiny uppercase mono labels, and feathered ink washes create a lampblack-on-bone reading sequence.
Moderately sparse and curatorial; generous gutters, isolated controls, secondary information grouped like museum wall labels.
Layered feathered sumi-ink radial plumes (multiply-blended) sit behind major plates so atmosphere becomes the navigational field; each container pairs a museum hairline with a single thick black brush-bar edge; an empty column is held open as a designed void.
Desktop is a 12-column spread: a dominant 7-column ink plate, a 3-column editorial card stack, and a preserved 2-column void. Tablet compresses to 8 columns; mobile becomes a single folio column with the void dropped.
Whitespace is structural: large margins, visible gutters, and an intentionally unfilled ivory void preserve ink-painting breath.
curatorial
Full-bleed hero spans 100vw; contained content caps and centres on ultra-wide; grids use minmax(0,1fr) and min-width:0 so they never overflow; mobile stacks to one column and hides the void.
suiboku
Monochrome gestural sumi ink-wash on warm bone-ivory paper. Full-frame ink plates that dissolve into a breathing ivory void; no colour enters the imagery.
Hero and feature imagery are full-frame suiboku plates with a large negative-space void positioned for overlay text; the landing hero is a swappable background-image: var(--hero-image).
# Lampblack ## Philosophy A sumi-ink editorial spread language: every screen is composed like a collectible literary plate on bone-ivory paper, where feathered smoke gradients, hairline captions, and a preserved void carry the hierarchy that loud colour usually would. Ink is the field, not the accent. ### Values - Let the preserved void carry as much meaning as the content, holding it open as a designed element. - Make ink behaviour visible through feathered gradients, granulation, and brush-weight type rather than chrome. - Favour collectible print pacing: each module reads like a curated plate, not a feed cell. - Use smoke and charcoal as atmospheric structure that directs attention across an asymmetric spread. ### Anti-Values - Avoid bright saturated surface fills, glossy SaaS gradients, and generic rounded card grids. - Avoid centred symmetry everywhere; rely on asymmetric balance and tense margins. - Avoid decorative brush or glyph motifs that do not affect layout, hierarchy, or reading sequence. ### Visual Character - An asymmetric magazine spread: one dominant ink plate, one narrow editorial column, and an open ivory void held to one side at every viewport. - Laid-paper plates carry feathered sumi-ink gradient washes and granulated speckle instead of flat neutral fills. - Oversized literary serif titles drive hierarchy through scale jumps, set against tiny uppercase mono marginalia. - Each container carries a fine museum hairline interrupted by a single thick black brush-bar edge. - Navigation and labels are small uppercase letterspaced mono captions placed like gallery wall labels. ## Tokens ### Colors | Name | Value | |------|-------| | bg | `#ECE6D6` | | surface | `#F8F3E6` | | text | `#0B0A08` | | muted | `#6C655A` | | border | `#1A1714` | | accent | `#8A5A2B` | | on_accent | `#F8F3E6` | | accent_2 | `#2F5A47` | | accent_3 | `#2C3E55` | | success | `#2F5A47` | | warning | `#9A6A16` | | error | `#7B1E1E` | | info | `#2C3E55` | ### Typography - **Base Size**: 17px - **Body Font**: Source Serif 4 - **Heading Font**: Cormorant Garamond - **Mono Font**: IBM Plex Mono - **Heading Weight**: 700 - **Heading Transform**: none - **Letter Spacing**: -0.045em - **Scale Ratio**: 1.28 - **Line Height**: 1.58 - **Google Fonts Url**: https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Cormorant+Garamond:wght@500;600;700&family=Source+Serif+4:opsz,wght@8..60,400;8..60,500;8..60,640&family=IBM+Plex+Mono:wght@400;500;600&display=swap ### Radii - **None**: 0 - **Sm**: 0 - **Md**: 0 - **Lg**: 0 - **Full**: 9999px ### Shadows - **Sm**: 0 1px 0 rgba(11,10,8,0.16) - **Md**: 0 18px 40px rgba(11,10,8,0.16) - **Lg**: 0 38px 90px rgba(11,10,8,0.20) ### Spacing - **Base**: 8px - **Scale**: [4,8,12,16,24,32,48,64,96,128] ### Surfaces - **Treatment**: paper - **Card Style**: warm laid-paper plates carrying feathered sumi-ink radial gradients, granulated charcoal speckle, and soft smoke veils - **Bg Pattern**: noise ### Borders - **Default Width**: 1px - **Accent Width**: 10px - **Style**: solid - **Character**: fine museum hairlines interrupted by one thick black brush-bar edge per container; never a uniform box outline ### Motion - **Duration**: 420ms - **Easing**: cubic-bezier(0.19, 1, 0.22, 1) - **Philosophy**: deliberate; settled state is the default, motion reveals on top, respects reduced-motion ## Rules ### Composition Build each screen as a large-format literary spread: one dominant ink plate, one narrow editorial column, and a preserved open void that creates asymmetric balance at every viewport. ### Hierarchy Use scale jumps over colour: oversized serif headlines, tiny uppercase mono labels, and feathered ink washes create a lampblack-on-bone reading sequence. ### Density Moderately sparse and curatorial; generous gutters, isolated controls, secondary information grouped like museum wall labels. ### Signature Layered feathered sumi-ink radial plumes (multiply-blended) sit behind major plates so atmosphere becomes the navigational field; each container pairs a museum hairline with a single thick black brush-bar edge; an empty column is held open as a designed void. ## Layout ### Grid Desktop is a 12-column spread: a dominant 7-column ink plate, a 3-column editorial card stack, and a preserved 2-column void. ## Overview
A sumi-ink editorial spread language: every screen is composed like a collectible literary plate on bone-ivory paper, where feathered smoke gradients, hairline captions, and a preserved void carry the hierarchy that loud colour usually would. Ink is the field, not the accent.
### Values
- Let the preserved void carry as much meaning as the content, holding it open as a designed element.
### Anti-Values
- Avoid bright saturated surface fills, glossy SaaS gradients, and generic rounded card grids.
- Avoid centred symmetry everywhere; rely on asymmetric balance and tense margins.
- Avoid decorative brush or glyph motifs that do not affect layout, hierarchy, or reading sequence.
### Visual Character
- An asymmetric magazine spread: one dominant ink plate, one narrow editorial column, and an open ivory void held to one side at every viewport.
- Laid-paper plates carry feathered sumi-ink gradient washes and granulated speckle instead of flat neutral fills.
- Oversized literary serif titles drive hierarchy through scale jumps, set against tiny uppercase mono marginalia.
- Each container carries a fine museum hairline interrupted by a single thick black brush-bar edge.
- Navigation and labels are small uppercase letterspaced mono captions placed like gallery wall labels.

## Components
### Composition
Build each screen as a large-format literary spread: one dominant ink plate, one narrow editorial column, and a preserved open void that creates asymmetric balance at every viewport.
### Hierarchy
Use scale jumps over colour: oversized serif headlines, tiny uppercase mono labels, and feathered ink washes create a lampblack-on-bone reading sequence.
### Density
Moderately sparse and curatorial; generous gutters, isolated controls, secondary information grouped like museum wall labels.
### Signature
Layered feathered sumi-ink radial plumes (multiply-blended) sit behind major plates so atmosphere becomes the navigational field; each container pairs a museum hairline with a single thick black brush-bar edge; an empty column is held open as a designed void.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019ef882-27ca-7fc0-ae5d-e96dc8bcaab7/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Use lampblack ink, bone paper, and feathered ink gradients as the core visual vocabulary.
- Do Preserve at least one large open void in important screens and compositions.
- Do Let oversized serif type and the single brush-bar edge define hierarchy before adding chrome.
- Do Treat images, charts, and forms as curated plates with mono labels, hairlines, and atmospheric edges.
- Do Keep the top nav open across the header; build hierarchy with space, type, and surface.
- Don't Do not fill every grid cell or turn the language into a dense admin dashboard.
- Don't Do not let the three margin inks become a surface field; keep them as highlighter-like margin strokes.
- Don't Do not use default browser form controls; restyle every input, select, switch, radio, and checkbox.
- Don't Do not centre everything; maintain asymmetric balance and tense margins.
- Don't Do not stamp a decorative edge on every side of a card or nest cards.
### Accessibility
Body text 17px on high-contrast lampblack-over-bone; AA-plus contrast on plates uses paper text over ink with mix-blend difference held legible; focus states use a thick ink underline/ring; motion respects prefers-reduced-motion and the settled state renders with no JavaScript.
## Imagery Direction
### Pairs With
suiboku
### Summary
Monochrome gestural sumi ink-wash on warm bone-ivory paper. Full-frame ink plates that dissolve into a breathing ivory void; no colour enters the imagery.
### Subjects
- misted mountain ridges
- a heron or crane in flight
- single calligraphic gestures
- smoke and water studies
- bare branches over paper
### Usage
Hero and feature imagery are full-frame suiboku plates with a large negative-space void positioned for overlay text; the landing hero is a swappable background-image: var(--hero-image).

# Lampblack shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019ef882-27ca-7fc0-ae5d-e96dc8bcaab7`
Slug: `lampblack`
## Intent
A sumi-ink editorial spread language: every screen is composed like a collectible literary plate on bone-ivory paper, where feathered smoke gradients, hairline captions, and a preserved void carry the hierarchy that loud colour usually would. Ink is the field, not the accent.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

}
## Visual character to preserve
- An asymmetric magazine spread: one dominant ink plate, one narrow editorial column, and an open ivory void held to one side at every viewport.
- Laid-paper plates carry feathered sumi-ink gradient washes and granulated speckle instead of flat neutral fills.
- Oversized literary serif titles drive hierarchy through scale jumps, set against tiny uppercase mono marginalia.
- Each container carries a fine museum hairline interrupted by a single thick black brush-bar edge.
- Navigation and labels are small uppercase letterspaced mono captions placed like gallery wall labels.

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/lampblack/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use lampblack ink, bone paper, and feathered ink gradients as the core visual vocabulary.; Preserve at least one large open void in important screens and compositions.; Let oversized serif type and the single brush-bar edge define hierarchy before adding chrome.; Treat images, charts, and forms as curated plates with mono labels, hairlines, and atmospheric edges.; Keep the top nav open across the header; build hierarchy with space, type, and surface.
- Do not: Do not fill every grid cell or turn the language into a dense admin dashboard.; Do not let the three margin inks become a surface field; keep them as highlighter-like margin strokes.; Do not use default browser form controls; restyle every input, select, switch, radio, and checkbox.; Do not centre everything; maintain asymmetric balance and tense margins.; Do not stamp a decorative edge on every side of a card or nest cards.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
